New Delhi : Contribution of Sikhs in India's Independence

National Seminar on 'Partition of India 1947 and Contribution of Sikhs in Freedom Struggle' was organized at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi today.

Principal Prof. Jaswinder Singh formally started the programme by welcoming the guests.

Sardar Tarlochan Singh (Chairman, Managing Committee, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College) told the need to observe and think about both partition and independence from different point of view. On the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence, especially the younger generation was urged for continuous remembrance and evaluation of both the historical events.

The keynote speaker of the programme Dr. Raghuvendra Tanwar (Chairman, Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi) highlighted the horrors of partition, various misconceptions related to it and it's socio-political consequences and damage to human values. India's civilization - culture has been described as the basic element in determining the nature of this nation. Dr. Mohinder Singh made a digital presentation on the contribution of Sikhs in independence and highlighted the condition of Sikhs in the latter half of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and their contribution by quoting from various historical books. Recalling the contribution of Sikhs in the freedom struggle, Dr. Jaspal Singh gave examples of Gadar movement, Gadar letters and many literary works, newspapers.

Pro. Seema Bawa, famous painters Satish Gujral, S.L. Parashar and P.N. Made a digital presentation with facts about the pain and horror of Partition through rare pictures of Mago.

In the successful operation of the program 'Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Center' gave remarkable support in digital presentation and operation. The presentation of this programme was done both offline and online.

ED seeks judicial remand of Partha Chatterjee, Arpita

Kolkata, Aug 5 (PTI) The ED Friday prayed for 14 days' judicial remand of former Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and his associate Arpita Mukherjee before a special PMLA court here in connection with its probe into the money trail in the School Service Commission appointments scam.

The ED counsel also prayed for the court's permission to interrogate the two accused in the correctional home over new revelations in the case.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) special court judge, Jibon Kumar Sadhu reserved his order after hearing all the parties in the case.

Chatterjee and Mukherjee have been in ED remand since their arrest on July 23 in connection with the agency's investigation into the alleged money trail involved in illegal appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff in West Bengal government sponsored and aided schools.

Praying for Chatterjee's bail, his lawyer submitted that he is an ordinary person now and will not abscond.

"He is not an influential person anymore and is also willing to consider giving up his MLAship," Chatterjee's lawyer said.

Chatterjee has been relieved of his ministerial duties by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while Trinamool Congress has removed him from all posts he held in the party.

The ED has claimed that out of the 15 days that Chatterjee has been in its custody, at least two days were wasted owing to his admission to the state-run SSKM hospital here.

Chatterjee was sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for medical checkup on the order of Calcutta High Court and the doctors there had said he did not require any immediate intervention.

The ED has claimed to have recovered Rs 49.8 crore in cash, a huge quantity of jewellery and gold bars from flats owned by Mukherjee, besides documents of properties and of a company joint held by the two accused.

New Delhi. Journalism is called the fourth pillar of democracy. Journalism has not attained this important place in democracy on its own, but given the importance of journalism’s obligations towards social concerns, it is the society that has given the status.

The SAARC Journalists Forum, India Chapter will launch an awareness campaign in the coming times to improve the declining standard of journalism day by day.

The duties of the media were nowhere fixed, but the expectation has always been that the news should be shown to those which concern the people, so that the people are benefited.

In a 2008 interview to Live Mint, Uday shankar, the then head of Star India, in response to a question on the declining level of journalism, said, “We need to distinguish between two things.

The first is whether such news is being deliberately shown or is being done because of lack of ability and ignorance. I think both these challenges exist in the Indian news media.Not just on TV, but also in print.”

The SAARC Journalist Forum is emerging as a large organization of South Asian countries, in such a way, our responsibility is also increasing day by day. We will try that we will play our successful role in keeping journalism a journalism of concern.

We thank our President Raju Lama ji, Secretary Abdur Rahman for doing the work of bringing journalists under one roof and encouraging them to do journalism with responsibility.

Good journalism is bad business, bad journalism is good business. We, as an organisation, want to be concerned with no business and want to bring the issue of journalists and journalism to the world impartially.

Mehbooba's new Twitter display pic shows tricolour, old J&K flag

Srinagar :(PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday put a new Twitter display picture that shows her late father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the national flag and the now-derecognised flag of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his Mann ki Baat radio broadcast this Sunday, PM Modi had said the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is turning into a mass movement and urged people to put 'tiranga' as the profile picture of their social media accounts between August 2 and 15.

Putting the new display picture, Mehbooba said the flag of Jammu and Kashmir might have been "snatched", but it cannot be erased from the collective conscience of the people.

The photograph was taken at a rally addressed by the prime minister during his Kashmir visit in November 2015 when Mufti Sayeed was chief minister of the erstwhile state.

"Changed my dp since a flag is a matter of joy & pride. For us our state flag was irreversibly linked to the Indian flag. It was snatched thus breaking away the link. You may have robbed us of our flag but cant erase it from our collective conscience," Mehbooba tweeted.

The Twitter post by the former chief minister also comes two days ahead of the third anniversary of revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

With the revocation of the special status, the Jammu and Kashmir flag was also derecognised.

ED being used to 'harass' opposition parties: Cong

New Delhi : (PTI) The Congress on Wednesday alleged that the Enforcement Directorate has become a "tool" in the hands of the BJP-led Centre to "destroy" the Opposition parties.

Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also said that the party was not being allowed to raise the issue of alleged "misuse" of the ED by the Centre in Parliament.

Chowdhury's remarks came a day after the ED raided the head office of the Congress party-owned National Herald newspaper here and other locations as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation.

He said Congress leaders in Lok Sabha had given three adjournment motion notices to raise the issue of alleged "misuse" of the ED.

"The ruling party is not allowing us to raise this issue. Why is the government scared of us putting our point in Parliament," he told reporters.

Chowdhury had tried to raise the issue of investigation into the National Herald newspaper in Lok Sabha, but was disallowed by the chair.

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm amid protests by Opposition members over various issues, including raids at the premises of National Herald newspaper in connection with a money laundering investigation.

Chowdhury alleged that ED was being used to "tarnish" the image of the Congress and of the newspaper that played a key role in the national movement.

"Today, the voice of freedom struggle, the National Herald, its image is being tarnished with an ill-intent. The ED is being misused and a conspiracy has been hatched against us. He said the Congress and all other Opposition parties are being harassed and Opposition governments are being destabilised through the misuse of ED," the Congress leader said.

"The ED has become a tool in the hands of the government to destroy Opposition parties and destabilise the state governments of the Opposition. (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi does not just want Congress-mukt Bharat but Opposition-mukt Bharat. We wanted two minutes to put forward this but were not allowed," he said.

The Congress on Tuesday had dubbed the ED raids on National Herald office here as "vendetta politics" and said it will not be cowed by such actions and will continue to expose failures of the government.

Along with Delhi, The pears of Jashpur are also being purchased in various states of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi. It is worth mentioning that the farmers of the remote areas of Jashpur are also cultivating tea, cashew, tomatoes, chillies, potatoes in their fields in addition to greens and vegetables in their fields. Pear cultivation is being done on a large scale in the plateau areas of the district. The farmers of the region are earning substantial profits from this cultivation. In Jashpur district, about 660 metric tonnes of pears are being produced in 750 hectares, which is benefitting more than 17 hundred farmers involved in pear cultivation. There is an unprecedented change in the lives of numerous farmers of the region who have been successfully earning livelihood with pear cultivation.

The cultivation of tea in Balachhapar of Jashpur district and the cultivation of papaya in Darbha of Bastar are already making headlines all over the country today. Unprecedented changes in the field of agriculture in the state are an indicator of the fact that Chhattisgarh's agriculture is now bringing more comprehensive growth and innovative changes than usual, which is connecting people with self-employment.

Many farmers have started production of pears by taking advantage of the Pear Area Extension Scheme of the Horticulture Department, one of them is Mr. Virendra Kujur, a farmer who has planted 250 pear trees in his farm and is earning substantial livelihood. Mr. Virendra informs that in the year 2021-2022, he earned about Rs. 3 lakhs from pear production . He further informs that he has got the direct benefit of the government's schemes, which has provided assistance in increasing his income, he is working continuously under the guidance of agricultural scientists and wants to expand this work even further.

On the intention of the Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, continuous work is being done to promote income-oriented activities of production and encourage farmers in the areas related to agriculture, horticulture and forestry in the state. Under the ambitious agricultural centric Narva, Garwa, Ghurwa, Bari schemes of Chhattisgarh government, production of vegetables and fruits based on local climate is also being promoted in the villages. With the aim of bringing change in the economic condition and standard of living of the village, villagers and farmers, such schemes are being implemented to push Chhattisgarh's agricultural sector towards growth and to fill the pockets of the farmers.

The state government is operating through many important schemes to promote agriculture in the state and encourage farmers by making them financially empowered by creating awareness to cultivate cash crops other than paddy, farmers in remote areas are also making use of modern technology and technical help from agricultural scientists.

RS: Cong, Shiv Sena seek to raise misuse of probe agencies, disallowed by chairman

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) The Congress and the Shiv Sena on Wednesday tried to raise the issue of alleged misuse of central investigating agencies by the government in the Rajya Sabha but Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu disallowed them from doing so.

Leader of the Opposition and senior Congress leader M Mallikarjun Kharge and his colleague Deepender Singh Hooda, Shiv Sena's Priyanka Chaturvedi and AAP's Sanjay Singh and Raghav Chadha gave notices under rule 267 but they were not admitted.

"You know my position. These are all notices not worth to be taken up under 267," Naidu said.

Rule 267 provides for setting aside the business of the day to take up discussion on the issue being raised in such notice.

Kharge charged the BJP-led government of misusing the Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation and Income Tax to target political rivals.

The government is using the investigating agencies with a vengeance as part of a plan to target political opponents as well as bring down democratically elected state governments, he alleged seeking a discussion.

"I am not admitting it," Naidu said.

The notice by Congress leaders came a day after the ED raided the head office of the National Herald newspaper here and 11 other locations as part of an ongoing money laundering investigation. The ED had earlier questioned Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and her son and party leader Rahul Gandhi in the case.

Chaturvedi said her party leader and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut was arrested by the ED without informing the chairman.

"As per rule 220 of rule book, they should have kept you informed. Were they doing? Are they undermining your constitutional position," she asked Naidu.

She alleged that the country was moving towards ED-raaj without any accountability, which is worrying.

But her notice too wasn't admitted.

After rejecting the 267 notices, Naidu took up Zero Hour where MPs are allowed to make mention of public interest issues.

Santanu Sen of the Trinamool Congress raised the issue of falling levels of women literacy while Rajni Ashokrao Patil of the Congress highlighted the drought-like situation in parts of Maharashtra.

DMK's Vaiko raised the issue of a Chinese military survey ship visiting a strategic port in crisis-hit Sri Lanka later this month.

The vessel - Yuan Wang 5 - involved in space and satellite tracking can be used to spy on India and the government should take note of it and make a statement, he demanded.

Brijlal (BJP) wanted the government to enforce UGC guidelines for qualifying markets for reserved categories in the recruitment of Assistant Professors by various universities in the country.

Mamata Mohanta (BJD) sought repair of the Elephant corridor in Odisha to prevent deaths, while Luizinho Joaquim Faleiro demanded pension for Goan Seamen.

Rajmani Patel of Congress raised the alleged corruption and other irregularities in the construction of Gaushala under MNREGA in Madhya Pradesh.

ED raids National Herald assets in Delhi

New Delhi : The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday raided a dozen locations including the head office of the Congress party-owned National Herald newspaper here as part of an ongoing money laundering probe, officials said.

They said the searches are being carried out under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to "gather additional evidences with regard to the trail of funds".

Officers of the federal agency also searched the 'Herald House' office located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, ITO in central Delhi.

The address is registered in the name of Associated Journals Ltd which publishes the newspaper.

The ED has recently undertaken the high-profile questioning of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her MP son Rahul Gandhi in this case apart from few other Congress politicians.

AP gas leak: Affected workers stable, says apparel unit

Visakhapatnam, Aug 3 (PTI) Workers of an apparel manufacturing unit in the Brandix Special Economic Zone at Atchyutapuram near here, who fell sick on August 2 night due to what was suspected to be a mysterious gas leak, were stable as they were being treated in different hospitals.

With the state government yet to issue a statement on the incident, the opposition parties lashed out at the former over its alleged failure to prevent such mishaps.

According to the latest count, some 95 workers fell sick with nausea and vomiting after they inhaled a pungent gas that filled the air at the manufacturing unit on Tuesday night.

They were undergoing treatment in hospitals in Anakapalli, Atchyutapuram and Visakhapatnam.

It was a second such incident in two months after the one on June 3 in the same place where more than 300 women workers fell unconscious after complaining of eyesore, nausea and vomiting.

The state government has not made public the report submitted by a team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad on the June 3 gas leak.

The report of an official committee, headed by the Anakapalli district Joint Collector, was also not revealed.

On June 3, it was suspected that ammonia gas leaked from a nearby Porus Laboratories unit.

A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology in Hyderabad visited the lab and conducted tests to determine the cause of the leak while the AP Pollution Control Board ordered closure of the lab.

The Porus lab was shut down for a few days after the mishap but soon resumed activities.

Subsequently, the APPCB as well as the government did not reveal the cause of the incident.

State Industries Minister Gudivada Amarnath, under whose Anakapalli constituency the Brandix SEZ falls, did not respond to calls for clarification.

According to official sources, the minister has asked the district Collector P Ravi Subhash to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident and submit a report.

The Collector visited some hospitals and spoke to the victims about the medicare being provided.

Seeds Intimate Apparel India Private Ltd, where the two incidents occurred, said in a statement that the affected associates were in a stable condition following Tuesday night's incident.

A few of our associates complained of an unpleasant odour in the atmosphere and, as a result, some of them were taken to the closest hospital for medical precaution. The affected associates are in a stable condition, Seeds said in a statement.

Seeds said the safety and well-being of their associates was of utmost importance to it.

MLC and Telugu Desam Party general secretary Nara Lokesh alleged that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government was not waking up from its deep slumber though such mishaps were occurring repeatedly.

Two incidents in two months in the Brandix SEZ clearly exposed the failure of the government in taking corrective action. The Chief Minister is turning Visakhapatnam, known as city of destiny, into 'Vishadapatnam' (city of tragedy), Lokesh said in a statement.

BJP state president Somu Veerraju also came down heavily on the state government, saying its gross negligence was glaring. Has the government given up its responsibility of overseeing industrial safety, he questioned.

Eknath Shinde govt will collapse as treachery not acceptable in Maha: Aaditya Thackeray

Sindhudurg :(PTI) Maharashtra never tolerates treachery and the Eknath Shinde-led government will collapse for sure, Yuva Sena chief and former minister Aaditya Thackeray said on Monday.

Addressing Shiv Sena workers during his tour of the Konkan region, he said the Shinde government's focus is on "dirty politics" and not the welfare of the people.

"This entire political drama is of the one-and-half months. The government will collapse for sure. Maharashtra never tolerates treachery, said Aaditya, son of Shiv Sena chief and former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Attacking the Shinde government in which Devendra Fadnavis of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the deputy chief minister, Aaditya said the current government's focus is on "dirty politics" and not the welfare of Maharashtra and the people.

The state witnessed incessant rains and floods, but the government is not bothered, he alleged.

The rebellion by Shinde and 40 MLAs of Shiv Sena led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government last month.

RS proceedings adjourned for 2nd time amid protest by Cong, Oppn parties over various issues

New Delhi : (PTI) Rajya Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Monday amid massive sloganeering and protest by Congress and other opposition parties over various issues, including price rise

When the House reassembled at 12 noon for Question Hour after adjournment during the morning session, opposition parties again started protesting.

Some MPs from the opposition benches also came into the Well of the House and shouted slogans

However, Bhubaneswar Kalita, who was in the chair, went ahead with the Question Hour

Several questions were taken up amid the protest

It was at around 12.40 that the proceedings were again adjourned till 2 pm

Before adjourning the proceedings, Kalita told protesting members that the leader of opposition (Mallikarjun Kharge) has demanded discussion on the issue of price rise.

He further said the leader of the House (Piyush Goyal) has informed that the discussion would be taken up tomorrow

Protesting members did not yield to Kalita's request for order in the House leading to adjournment.

The House during the the morning session, which started at 11 am, was adjourned for similar reason for about an hour.

Mr. vidrohi gave this advice to journalists of the country, including the honor ceremony of IJA officials, to the journalists present at the Ramsavak Auditorium in Goroul ! Where are the journalists of the country not safe at the present time ,Assessment of incident with journalists in various parts of the country in a few days makes it possible that honest journalists are not safe in any part of the country central And the state government is not interested in creating and enforcing journalist security laws !

If the government was serious, the Joint Forum of dozens of journalist organizations in the country would not have to demonstrate before Parliament on 18 July !

Journalists of these countries , appealed to organizations to put their talks before the government to enact and enforce security laws and everyone should cooperate as part of the joint forum !

A lleged Patra Chawl land scam, in Mumbai , After a medical check-up, Raut shall be taken before a Special Court under Prevention of Money Laundering Act

After an 18-hour suspense starting with a raid by the ED on Raut’s home at dawn on Sunday, then his detention and grilling, the firebrand MP was finally arrested in the early hours of Monday in connection with the alleged Rs 1,034-crore Patra Chawl land scam case.

The stormy petrel of Shiv Sena and four-time Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday, shall be produced before a special court later in the day.

After a medical check-up, Raut shall be taken before a Special Court under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, where ED cases are usually heard, at around 11.30 a.m..

Raut, 61-year is a close aide of Shiv Sena President and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, plus the Chief Spokesperson of Shiv Sena and executive editor of the SAAMANA Group of newspapers.

Over the years, Raut became one of the most virulent critics of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) besides rallying together the various state and national Opposition parties.

He had gone under the scanner of ED since the time he played a crucial role in the formation of the erstwhile Maha Vikas Aghadi government which fell in June 29 after 31 months in power.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Raut’s brother and Shiv Sena MLA Sunil Raut said that with the arrest, the BJP is trying to muzzle the voice of Shiv Sena.

“We are not scared by all this bogus actions… Raut saheb will fight, we all shall fight… the Shiv Sena will fight but will not now before the BJP, Sanjay Raut will never leave the Sena,” he said.

We need more focus on the journalists issue in SAARC region : Anirudh Sudhanshu

New Delhi.: Allmost all the chapters has been formed. With the formation of Pakistan chapters, SJF became one of the largest journalist association in the region. In recent days more than 100 journalist joined the SJF under the different chapters. SJF Bangladesh Chapter had organised a successfull conference on Padma Bridge. We congratulate executive committee and the President of Organisation Raju Lama along with the V.P. Ramnath Vidrohi and Gen. Sec. Md Abdur Rahman.

But now the time has come when we need a strong step to consolidate the organisation and the people within the organisation. For the success of any kinds of Organisation we need to focus on the issue and a regular weekly co-ordination meeting. Once in a week only President of all chapters and the President and General Secretary of International organisation meet much needed. We also need to take a step to develop organisation as a whole body like a collaborative organisation.

I congratulate and appreciate the work done by the different chapters but now we have to look forward to the future perspect of the organisation, How the SJF's different chapters will work together under the one umbrella ? Former RBI Governor Mr. Raghuram Rajan has appreciated the Gothan and Godhan Nyay scheme of the Government of Chhattisgarh. He said that through Gauthans and Godhan Nyay Yojana, work of improving livestock conditions is being done by ensuring the participation of villagers to create additional sources of income for them. This initiative of the Chhattisgarh Government is the best bottom-up approach in the country. Mr. Rajan said that through this we can not only get better solution for farming and livelihood, but also reduce the problems of decreasing fertility of the land due to indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture. The availability of food items can also be improved greatly. Many problems like toxicity, damage to the environment and global warming can be reduced to a great extent. Mr. Rajan said this during a visit to Adarsh Gauthan in the village of Navagaon (L) in the Abhanpur block of Raipur district while scrutinizing the income-oriented activities conducted by women's groups there. On this occasion, Advisor to Chief Minister Mr. Pradeep Sharma, Prof. Rajeev Gowda and Ms. Yamini Iyer, Chief Executive Officer of District Panchayat Raipur, Mr. Ravi Mittal were also present.

Former RBI Governor Shri Rajan also appreciated the management of livestock care, arrangement of free fodder and water, health check-up, treatment and vaccination of animals in the Gauthan of Navagaon. Mr. Rajan observed the income-oriented activities like organic manure production, mushroom production, vegetable production at a large scale, oil distillation, fisheries, poultry, goat rearing etc. conducted by women groups in Gauthan. He said that the livelihood oriented activities conducted in the Gauthans have proved to be helpful in providing economic support to the villagers during Covid-19. Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the purchase of cow dung in Gauthans for Rs 2 per kg and its use in the manufacture of vermi compost, super compost and farming is a commendable initiative by the state government. This will improve the fertility of the land as well as reduce the cost of agriculture and cut down the risk of food poisoning due to use of harmful pesticides.

Prof. Rajeev Gowda also appreciated the Gothan and Godhan Nyay scheme of the Government of Chhattisgarh and said that this initiative is an example for other states of the country. Ms. Yamini Iyer appreciated the coordination of Gauthan and Godhan Nyay Yojana to provide better opportunities for livelihood and employment to rural women in the village itself.

Former RBI Governor Mr. Rajan, Prof. Mr. Rajeev Gowda, Ms. Yamini Iyer also visited the Multi Activity Center at Serikhedi, Raipur. It is being operated by Ujala Village Organization Serikhedi. In this center 28 types of quality eco-friendly herbal products are being manufactured by rural women. Rakhi manufacturing, mushroom products, gauge piece manufacturing, millets based bakery products, RO water bottling, sanitary pad packaging units, bio-flocculation units, solar dryers, soap manufacturing, cold storage etc. activities are being conducted here by women groups.

The Congress MP demanded to expunge the “way Smriti Irani was addressing the Hon’ble President” from the proceedings of the House.

Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday alleged that Union Minister Smriti Irani was “yelling” the name of President Droupadi Murmu “without prefixing Madame or Smt” during her address in the House, the manner which “amounts to degrading the stature” of the highest office of the country.

The Congress MP demanded to expunge the “way Smriti Irani was addressing the Hon’ble President” from the proceedings of the House. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Chowdhury wrote, “I may also like to point out that the manner in which Smt. Smriti Irani was taking the name of Hon’ble Madam President in the House was not proper and in consonance with the status and position of the Hon’ble President. She was yelling ‘Droupadi Murmu’ repeatedly without prefixing Hon’ble President or Madame or Smt. before the Hon’ble President’s name.”

“This clearly amounts to degrading the stature of the office of the Hon’ble President. Therefore, I demand that the way Smt. Smriti Irani was addressing the Hon’ble President may be expunged from the proceedings of the House,” he added in the letter.

Notably, Irani in Lok Sabha had said the Congress should apologise in Parliament, and on the streets of India, to every citizen of India.

“Sonia Gandhi, you sanctioned the humiliation of Droupadi Murmu. Sonia ji sanctioned the humiliation of a woman in the highest constitutional post.

Sonia ji sanctioned the humiliation of a poor woman who ascends to the highest Office in this country. You sanctioned the insult of every Indian citizen.

You through your male Congress workers and leaders continue to demean the Office of the President of India. Apologise to the nation. Sonia Gandhi, apologise to the tribal, poor and woman of the country,” said Union Minister Smriti Irani in Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, mentioning the controversy (rashtrapatni remark) that led to the protests by the BJP in the Parliament complex, Chowdhury, who earlier termed the incident a “slip of tongue”, said that the error took place because he is not well-versed in Hindi.

“I regret to say that this controversy erupted because of a mere slip of tongue on my part. This error occurred because my mother tongue is Bengali and I am not well versed in Hindi. It is really very sad that Madam Rashtrapati Ji’s name is being unnecessarily dragged in order to gain cheap publicity and political one-upmanship by the ruling party,” he wrote.

However, Chowdhury on Friday tendered an apology to President Droupadi Murmu over his controversial “rashtrapatni” remark.

This came a day after he said that ‘there is no question of apologising as he had mistakenly referred to President Droupadi Murmu as Rashtrapatni”.

“I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold. I assure you that it was a slip of tongue. I apologise and request you to accept the same,” reads a letter written by Chowdhury.

Speaking to ANI on Friday, Chowdhury said, “I am waiting for BJP to term me terrorist and arrest me under UAPA. They want to become champions of tribals but hide how murders are happening. Laws brought under Sonia Gandhi are being changed. They are working against tribals.”

“I can’t even think of insulting the President. It was just a mistake. If the President felt bad, I will personally meet her and apologise. They can hang me if they want. I am ready to get punished but why is she (Sonia Gandhi) being dragged in this?” Chowdhury told ANI on Thursday questioning why the Congress Interim President is being dragged into the controversy.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary said that he had used the term “rashtrapatni” for President Murmu by mistake and that the ruling party was deliberately trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
