MP Brijmohan made clean air and public health in non-attainment cities a national issue.
The issue of air pollution was raised in Parliament.
Raipur . In a significant and visionary intervention in Parliament on issues of environmental protection, public health, and sustainable development, MP and senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal raised the crucial issue of severely polluted areas of the country, especially Non-Attainment Cities (NACs).
MP Brijmohan said that special protection measures are needed for children, the elderly, workers, and vulnerable groups most affected by high pollution.
By specifically mentioning non-attainment cities like Bhilai, Korba and Raipur in Chhattisgarh, MP Agarwal ensured that the health security of the people living in the industrial and urban areas of the state became the centre of national debate.
Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh said that measures like city-specific action plans, scientific studies, real-time monitoring and road dust control under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) have yielded positive results across the country. The aim is to improve air quality in 122 substandard and 8 other million-plus cities, including Korba, Bhilai and Raipur in Chhattisgarh.
Reduction in PM10 concentrations in 103 out of 130 cities, a significant drop of more than 20% in 64 and more than 40% in 25—this is a living testimony to the Central Government's science-driven, location-specific strategy. A total of 22 cities have achieved NAAQS standards, with PM10 levels below 60 μg/m3.
MP Brijmohan Agrawal said, "Clean air is not just a question of the environment, but also of public health and a secure future for future generations. It is our responsibility through Parliament to ensure that policies are effectively implemented on the ground and every citizen gets a clean environment."
His initiative is a strong message towards clean air, healthy life and scientific policy making not only for Chhattisgarh but for the entire country.
