Dhudmaras Village in Bastar Recognized as Global Tourism Hub by UNWTO
Raipur – Dhudmaras, a small village in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, has achieved global recognition after being selected by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for its Best Tourism Village. Situated in the heart of Kanger Valley National Park, Dhudmaras is among 20 villages chosen from 60 countries worldwide for the prestigious program, highlighting its potential for sustainable tourism development.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the Tourism and Forest Departments, Bastar District Administration, and officials from Kanger Valley National Park for their role in the village's success. He credited the local residents for preserving their traditional knowledge and resources, which have transformed Dhudmaras into a major tourist destination. The village is renowned for its natural beauty, tribal culture, and biodiversity, attracting visitors with its unique blend of traditional lifestyle, local cuisine, and scenic landscapes.
As part of the UNWTO’s upgradation program, Dhudmaras will receive support to enhance its tourism infrastructure, promote its cultural heritage, and improve the quality of life for villagers. This recognition is expected to increase international tourism in the region, especially following the Best Tourism Village Award received by Dhudmaras and nearby Chitrakot village from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, on World Tourism Day (September 27, 2024).
Natural Beauty and Community Engagement
Nestled in dense forests with the Kanger River flowing through it, Dhudmaras offers an idyllic setting for eco-tourism. The warmth and hospitality of the Bastar people play a key role in the village’s tourism success. Local residents are offering homestays and accommodation facilities, while the village youth serve as guides for tourists, showcasing the surrounding areas.
Government Initiatives for Sustainable Tourism
To boost tourism, the Chhattisgarh government is improving roads and transport facilities in the area, alongside promoting local handicrafts in global markets. The Forest and Tourism Departments have been instrumental in establishing avenues for Atmanirbhar Bharat by developing Dhudmaras as an eco-tourism destination, and new initiatives are expanding the range of activities available to visitors.
In Nagalsar and Netanar villages, located within Kanger Valley National Park, local youth through the Eco-Tourism Development Committee are offering kayaking and bamboo rafting on the Shabri and Kanger rivers. This initiative has not only enhanced the tourism experience but also provided a steady source of income for the community, with the committee reinvesting its earnings to build basic facilities such as waiting rooms and restrooms for tourists.
Empowered by Tourism and Forest Departments through training and capacity building youths of 40 families of local Dhurwa Tribe are conducting Kayaking, Bamboo rafting and trekking activities. Interestingly, activities like home stays are also included where they introduce the tourists traditional way of Tribal life including their unique customs, crafts and festivals.
A Model for Rural Development
The success of Dhudmaras demonstrates the potential of community participation combined with government support to drive economic and cultural development in rural areas. Dhudmaras now serves as an inspiration for other villages in Bastar, encouraging the promotion of eco-tourism and local heritage. The Chhattisgarh government is expanding these efforts, with Nagalsar and Netanar also being developed as eco-tourism hubs in the region.
This achievement marks a significant milestone in Bastar’s journey to becoming a globally recognized eco-tourism destination, benefiting both the local communities and the broader region.
While sharing his delight of earning a livelihood through homestay operator, one of the Dhurva community youth Mansingh Baghel said, “Many people have got employment from Homestay and some youth are taking the visitors for cooking, camping, trekking and bird watching.
Even as adventure tourism is providing thrill to tourists a prominent use of localy available natural resources like bamboo raft, bamboo made dustbins, mud houses, leaf platters and various operations are also providing responsible and sustainable tourism. All along nature conservation served as a bottom line of all activities.
Appreciating the unique experience of Homestay in Dhudmaras village, a tourist Vidya from Banguluru said, “Its been an amazing experience of spending time with Dhurwa community, I was accommodating in a local homestay where I relished local cuisine with friendly people.”
Dhudmaras is close proximity of Kanger Valley National Park, which is inhabited by indigenous Tribal communities including Dhurwa and Maria Tribes. Visitors have the opportunity to learn and explore their customs, hospitality and scenic views.
The introduction of tourism activities has brought evident changes in lives of Dudhmaras villagers. The employment opportunities encouraged youth to deviate from joining Naxal movement and these initiatives have alos proved effective tool in curbing migration problem of the villagers. Resonating with the fact, a Self Help Group Member Mangaldevi Baghel said, “Earlier we were not getting employment in the village due to which we had to migrate to another place. Now we are leading a decent life by working at locally.”

Raipur : Appreciating glorious history of Tribal community on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas at Science College Ground, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday said that Former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have worked to increase the honor, respect and pride of the Tribal community. Shri Atal ji created a separate ministry for the welfare of the Tribal community and gave a new direction to the development of this community. Prime Minister Shri Modi has started many schemes for the upliftment of the tribal community. A budget provision of Rs 24,000 crore has been made under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and Rs 80,000 crore for the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, due to which the development of infrastructure in tribal areas and the betterment of the tribes is being done rapidly.
As a thoughtful gesture, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai announced the Chief Minister's Samman Nidhi for the Baiga, Gunia, Sirha people belonging to the tribal community of Chhattisgarh state on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Under this, they will be given financial assistance of Rs 5,000 annually. The Chief Minister announced the launch of Akhra Nirman Vikas Yojana for religious and auspicious functions in Tribal villages and the installation of statues of the martyrs of the Tribal community at identified sites.
Chief Minister Shri Sai honored the dignitaries of the tribal community, the martyrs of the tribal rebellion in the state and the family members of freedom fighters in the ceremony. He awarded the winners of the Tribal painting competition. On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Sai released the 'Atlas' related to Forest Rights Act, calendar 'Shauryanjali' and a book published on the subject of 'Halba Janjati Ki Vachik Paramparayein'. These have been published by Chhattisgarh Tribal Development Department
On this occasion, Rajya Sabha MP Shri Arun Singh, who was presiding over the program, appreciated the work being done for the upliftment and welfare of all sections in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai. He said that the popularity and humility of Chief Minister Shri Sai is appreciated all over the country. He said that by coming to the Tribal Pride Day and Inter-State Dance Festival organized in Raipur, he has witnessed 'Ek Bharat-Shrestha Bharat'. He congratulated Chief Minister Shri Sai for this special event of Rashtriya Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas- National Tribal Pride Day.
While paying obeisance to the great men of the Tribal community, Shri Arun Singh said, “Only those countries and societies remain truly awake that honor their culture and remember their great leaders.”
Tribal Development Minister Shri Ram Vichar Netam said that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has shown concern for the upliftment of the tribal community. He has implemented many schemes for the development of this community. He said that the Dharti Aba Janjati Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will lead to the overall development of 6500 villages and improvement of standard of living of the people of the tribal community is improving through the PM Janman Yojana.
It is noteworthy that on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several important projects worth Rs 6600 crores for the development and expansion of basic facilities in the remote rural areas of the country. The Prime Minister said that we are spending five times the budget for the welfare of the tribal areas and tribal community of the country. Ten years ago, its budget was only Rs 25,000 crores, but it has now increased to Rs 1,25,000 crores.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the inaugural function marking the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda in Jamui, Bihar. The event was broadcast live across the country. In his speech, the Prime Minister emphasized efforts to correct historical injustices, highlighting that tribal communities had been denied their rightful place in history despite their significant contributions. He praised the tribal society for its role in India's freedom struggle, with countless heroes sacrificing their lives for their culture, identity, and independence.
Shri Modi acknowledged the contributions of President Smt. Draupadi Murmu in advancing the welfare of tribal communities, particularly through the PM Janman Yojana, which has allocated Rs 24,000 crore for the development of tribal settlements and villages. Tribal-dominated districts have been identified as aspirational districts, ensuring their all-round development.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the nation on the occasion of National Tribal Pride Day and the birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda, linking it to significant cultural celebrations like Kartik Purnima, Dev Deepawali, and Guru Nanak Ji's Prakash Parv. He announced the creation of Birsa Munda Tribal Gardens in districts and called for adopting the traditions and ideals of tribal society as a foundation for the country's progress.
The event was attended by various public representatives, tribal society officials, and citizens, including MLAs, former ministers, and senior officials.

Raipur : Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai visited the photo exhibition of the Public Relations Department on the second evening of Rajyotsav on Wednesday.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister interacted the artists present there and expressed his happiness by playing the Mandar instrument. Chief Minister Shri Sai was seen in a different style, dancing to the beats of the Mandar with the artists. People appreciated Chief Minister's down to earth approach with common man along with his simplicity in one to one interaction with Chhattisgarhi artists. On this occasion, Rikhi Kshatriya presented a Mandar to the Chief Minister on his behalf.
It is worth noting that various schemes, development works and public welfare projects of the state have been displayed in the exhibition of the Public Relations Department. The Chief Minister appreciated the schemes and achievements shown in the exhibition and called it an important medium to increase awareness among the public. On this occasion, he listened to the speech given by former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the United Nations General Assembly in Hindi, being broadcasted through LED TV, wearing headphones.
The speech was given by Shri Vajpayee ji on 4 October, 1977 representing the country as the Foreign Minister of India. The speech was given in Hindi language which became a historic in the United Nations General Assembly. During which he raised many serious issues like nuclear disarmament and terrorism. He said that India wants friendship with all the countries and India will always play a leading role in world peace. He strongly put forward the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam on the world stage and said that I assure this General Assembly on behalf of India that we will never lag behind in the time of sacrifice and renunciation for the attainment of the ideals of one world and for the welfare and glory of mankind.
Chief Minister Shri Sai described the speech of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna late Atal Bihari Vajpayee as historic and said that it will make India proud. Chief Minister Shri Sai rewarded the students of Dani School and Kali Bari School who were winners in the Prashna Mala program at the Public Relations Department's exhibition. Students Lavina Verma, Kiran Sahu Suman, Mahima Verma, Deepika Dhiwar urged the Chief Minister to organize such events from time to time. In the Public Relations exhibition, Rikhi Kshatriya Bhilai displayed musical instruments of Chhattisgarh to preserve and promote the culture of Chhattisgarh.

Raipur - Moving forward with the concept of prosperity and good governance through service, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually inaugurated the CIMS Super Specialty Hospital built at a cost of 200 crores in Bilaspur (Koni) on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and Ninth Ayurveda Day.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony organized at Super Specialty Hospital Koni. Prime Minister Shri Modi virtually launched and laid the foundation stone of several health projects worth more than Rs 12,850 crore at various places in the country at a ceremony held in New Delhi, including the inauguration of CIMS Hospital, and the foundation stone laying of the 100-bed Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIY) to be built in Raipur.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Shri Modi said, “Healthier the population, the quicker the country's progress."
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi wished the citizens on Dhanteras and Lord Dhanvantari Jayanti and said that this celebration of good fortune and health on the day of Dhanteras is not just a coincidence, it is a celebration of health and prosperity. People from all over the world come to India for yoga and Panchkarma, their number will increase further in the coming times. He said that the Government of India is working with sensitivity in the field of health.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, while addressing the program, said that on this auspicious day, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given a big gift to the Bilaspur in the field of health.
“Our government is committed to fulfill all the promises of development with Prime Minister’s guarantee and the resolve of good governance. Chief Minister's Tirtha Yatra Yojana is being resumed by our government. Our government is working with full sensitivity on all dimensions of development including education, health, employment,” said Shri Sai.
The Multi Super Specialty Hospital located in Bilaspur is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. The hospital will not only provide better treatment facilities to the villagers around Bilaspur but also to patients of Surguja division, added Shri Sai.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao said that the hospital built at a cost of 200 crores under the leadership of the Prime Minister of the country Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai is a great gift for the people of Bilaspur on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras Diwas.
MLA Sushant Shukla said that the inauguration of this hospital will set a new record in the field of health.
Delivering the welcome address in the program, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Pingua described the inauguration of this multi super specialty hospital as a historic moment for Bilaspur.
It is worth noting that in 2003, former Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee had initiated the Swasthya Suraksha Yojana to increase the reach of quality health facilities in remote areas and to strengthen medical facilities.
Two super specialty hospitals are being started in Chhattisgarh under Phase 4 of the Prime Minister's Health Security Scheme, which includes this super specialty hospital built at a cost of Rs 200 crores. This 11-storey hospital is the tallest building in Bilaspur is sprawled in around 2.5 acres of land area with facilities like CT scan, MRI, digital X-ray, color Doppler TMT machine. This 240-bed hospital will have 70 ICU and ICCU beds. A total eight modular operation theaters have also been constructed in this hospital. At present four OPDs are being started in this hospital, including Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Pulmonology and General Medicine. Blood bank and pathology lab facilities will also be available in this hospital.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai visited the facilities available in this grand 11-storey hospital building. He inspected the rooms like CT scan, X-ray, blood bank, pathology lab etc. During this, various materials and certificates were also distributed under the health scheme. He distributed motorized tricycles, two bike ambulances for operating in remote areas, five sickle cards, five Ayushman cards to 37 beneficiaries. Similarly, he provided NQAS certificate to seven centers of the district including three primary health centers including the district hospital, Kargi Kala, Hardi Kala, Navagaon Salka and 03 sub health centers Mitthu Navagaon, Majhwani, Pendrava to ensure better quality in the health center. NQAS certificates are provided under National Quality Supervisory Committee under the Health and Family Welfare Department to ensure better health and quality.

Raipur - Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the 100-bed Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy (CRIYN) in Raipur from the All India Institute of Ayurveda in New Delhi on National Ayurveda Day. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Shri Modi stated, "The more healthy the people of the country are, the faster the progress of the country will be." He highlighted that the number of people from around the world seeking yoga and panchakarma treatments in India is expected to rise significantly in the future. He affirmed that the Government of India is working with sensitivity to improve health care.
The Central Research Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy is being established under the Central Council of Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN). The institute is set to be completed within 24 months at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore, with the state government providing 10 acres of land for its development. This will mark Chhattisgarh's first yoga and naturopathy research center and hospital, offering treatment facilities for non-communicable diseases including obesity, prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, and arthritis.
The research center will have outpatient and administrative blocks, inpatient wards, staff quarters, a yoga hall, a diet center, massage and physiotherapy sections, as well as dedicated research facilities. It will also conduct training certification courses in spa and wellness therapy, alongside fellowship courses in research. The opening of this institute is expected to enhance knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga and naturopathy.
Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal stated "India is constantly moving forward by preserving its old methods. Today, on the occasion of Dhanteras, the gift that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given to the state in the form of the Central Yoga and Naturopathy Research Institute will be remembered by us and our future generations. The establishment of this research center will create self-employment opportunities for the youth, enabling them to receive training and promote entrepreneurship. India has always been a leader in yoga and Ayurveda, and the opening of such research centers will further enhance this tradition. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai is committed to the comprehensive development of Chhattisgarh, with the expansion of health facilities being a top priority."
The event at DDU Auditorium in Raipur was attended by MP Shri Brijmohan Agrawal, MLAs Shri Purandar Mishra Shri Guru Khushwant Saheb, and Shri Motilal Sahu, along with officials from the AYUSH department and students from the Ayurveda college.
