Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi admires Kutch's 'Flamingo City', calls the birds 'Lakha ji's wedding guests'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday discussed the conservation of flamingos and their natural habitat in the 133rd episode of his 'Mann Ki Baat' programme. In the 133rd edition of the Mann Ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, "As soon as the rains end, the land of the Rann of Kutch comes alive. Every year, lakhs of flamingos come here. The entire area turns pink, hence it is called Flamingo City. These birds build their nests and raise their young ones here. The people of Kutch call them 'Lakha Ji's Baraatis'. Now, these Baraatis of Lakha Ji have become a beautiful symbol of environmental conservation in Kutch."
The PM said that as soon as the monsoon ends, the land here comes alive. Every year, millions of flamingos visit. The entire area turns pink, which is why it is called "Flamingo City." These birds build their nests and raise their young here.
Prime Minister Modi said that the Northeast is the Ashtalakshmi for all of us, brimming with talent, and its natural beauty also attracts everyone's attention. In "Mann Ki Baat," we have often discussed the achievements of the people of the Northeast. I will discuss another such achievement: the Northeast's success in the bamboo sector. What was once seen as a burden is now providing new impetus to employment, business, and innovation. Our mothers and sisters are its biggest beneficiaries.
He further said that there is also good news from central India. Blackbucks have reappeared in Chhattisgarh. Their numbers had dwindled significantly, but persistent efforts to conserve them have increased. Today, they are once again seen roaming the open plains. In Mann Ki Baat, the PM said that another story is about cooperation between humans and wildlife. And this story is from Uttar Pradesh. In the Terai region, herds of elephants come closer to villages during the harvest season, increasing the risk of conflict. However, now initiatives like "Gaj Mitra" have been launched in Uttar Pradesh as well.
