National Food Security Mission Boosts Farmer’s Prospects Through Improved Maize Cultivation : Government Support, Quality Seeds and Scientific Farming Give Surguja Farmer Shubham Dubey New Hope for Higher Income

Raipur, August 11, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Government’s initiatives under the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission are helping farmers adopt improved farming practices, reduce cultivation costs and increase the potential for higher returns.

Under the programme, farmers are being provided improved seeds, fertilizers, crop-protection inputs and technical guidance, with a special focus on increasing the production of nutritious crops such as maize.

From Vegetables to Maize, a New Opportunity

Shubham Dubey, a farmer from Krishnapur village in Ambikapur block of Surguja district, has cultivated maize on around two acres of land with support from the Agriculture Department.

Earlier, Dubey mainly cultivated vegetables but could not achieve the expected production and returns. After joining the National Food Security and Nutrition Mission, he opted for improved maize varieties along with proper nutrient management and weed-control measures.

According to Dubey, the crop has shown healthy growth and good development, raising his expectations of better production and improved market returns.

Technical Support Strengthens Farmer’s Confidence

Timely availability of improved seeds, agricultural inputs and technical guidance has given Dubey greater confidence in maize cultivation. He expects the improved crop to help increase his farm income and strengthen his family’s economic condition.

Expressing gratitude for the support, Dubey thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the Chhattisgarh Government, saying that such initiatives are giving small and traditional farmers new opportunities and encouraging them to adopt modern and productive farming practices.
