Jashpur Nagar, September 3, 2026: Taking prompt cognizance of news reports regarding roads damaged due to heavy rainfall in Jashpur district, the Public Works Department (PWD), B&R Division, Jashpur, has conducted inspections of the affected stretches and initiated necessary corrective measures.

The department has directed the concerned contractor to undertake immediate repair work on the Sulesa-Dangari road and restore normal traffic at the earliest. Meanwhile, on the Kailash Cave route, traffic has been diverted through an alternative road as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

60-Metre Stretch of Sulesa-Dangari Road Damaged

According to the Executive Engineer, PWD (B&R) Division, Jashpur, construction work on the 12.26-km-long Sulesa-Dangari road is currently in progress. Earthwork and GSB work on the route have already been completed.

Due to heavy rainfall in recent days and strong water flow through an unpaved drain, approximately 60 metres of the road was damaged by erosion. After receiving information about the damage, departmental officials inspected the site on September 1. The concerned Sub-Divisional Engineer, contractor’s representative and local public representatives were present during the inspection.

The Executive Engineer has directed the concerned contractor to carry out repair and restoration work on the damaged stretch and ensure smooth movement of traffic. The department stated that the repair work will be completed at the earliest and the road will be restored for regular traffic.

Landslide on Kailash Cave Route; Traffic Diverted to Alternative Road

The PWD has also issued a clarification regarding the recently reported damage to the Kailash Cave road. The department stated that the Gayabudha-Kailash road was constructed during 2018-19 and, as per the contract, the work was completed on May 8, 2022. The Performance Guarantee (PG) period for the work was 36 months, which has now expired.

The department clarified that at the time of construction, there was no pond at Km 1/10 U/S (R/s). A large pond has subsequently been constructed on the right side of the road. Due to heavy rainfall in recent days, the pond filled with water, and seepage from the pond entered the lower layers of the road, resulting in a landslide on the right side due to natural factors.

Public Safety Given Top Priority

Keeping public safety in mind, the department immediately restricted traffic on both sides of the affected portion and installed safety signboards to prevent any possible accident. At present, traffic is being facilitated smoothly through another alternative PWD route.

The department further informed that an estimate for restoration of the damaged portion is being prepared under the FDR (Full Depth Reclamation) system, and further action is underway to commence the repair work at the earliest.

The PWD has reiterated that necessary action is being taken on priority to restore damaged road stretches affected by heavy rainfall and ensure safe and smooth movement of commuters and devotees.
