Raipur. The progress of monsoon has been satisfactory in large parts of the country, which is crucial for sowing of Kharif crops (especially paddy) and improving water levels. However, uneven distribution and the impact of El Nino have raised concerns in some areas. Sowing of Kharif crops was affected due to lack of rain in the early part of June, but the situation has improved with widespread rain in July.

This year's monsoon progress in Chhattisgarh has brought very encouraging signs for farmers and the general public. The green fields and smiles on faces across much of the state are testimony to the fact that the clouds are pouring generously. Thanks to these consistent, well-balanced rains and improved irrigation management, Chhattisgarh's farmers are once again poised for bumper harvests, which will pave the way for prosperity for the entire state.

81.3 percent of expected rainfall achieved – Revenue Department

According to data released by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the Chhattisgarh government from June 1st to today, July 17th, 2026, the state has successfully received 81.3 percent of its total expected average rainfall. So far, an average of 293.6 mm of actual rainfall has been recorded in the state, which is laying an excellent foundation for the upcoming golden agricultural season. Today too, rain continued to fall in many areas of the state, due to which the state's daily rainfall average reached 26.0 mm in the last 24 hours.

Heavy rain in Janjgir-Champa and Bilaspur

The most pleasant sight of monsoon showers was witnessed in Janjgir-Champa, where a heavy 80.0 mm of rain drenched the fields. Furthermore, 74.7 mm of rain in Bilaspur and 68.6 mm in Gariaband doubled the enthusiasm of farmers. In plain districts like Dhamtari, Mungeli, and Durg, the monsoon is also progressing at full speed and has already reached normal levels.

Record breaking rain in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh and Balrampur

This season's most pleasant picture comes from Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, where the monsoon has shown its special favor. The district has recorded a remarkable 512.8 mm of rainfall, achieving a remarkable 177.9 percent increase over its normal average. Similarly, in Balrampur, rainfall exceeded normal by 133.8 percent, rapidly improving reservoir levels. The capital, Raipur, is not far behind, with 110.7 percent more rainfall (354.9 mm) than average, bringing greenery all around.

The situation in Bastar division will improve from the last week of July.

Rainfall has remained slow in some southern areas of the Bastar division, such as Sukma, Bijapur, and Kanker. However, meteorologists predict that the next strong monsoon system will become active in the last week of July, directly benefiting these southern districts. The rains expected in the coming days will easily fulfill the remaining quota for these areas.
