Monsoon wreaks havoc in Chhattisgarh: Heavy rain alert for next 48 hours, affecting normal life in many districts
Raipur. The monsoon is fully active in Chhattisgarh, and heavy rain is continuously falling in most parts of the state. Heavy rain throughout the day on Wednesday in several districts, including the capital Raipur, brought pleasant weather, but waterlogging and traffic disruptions were reported in many areas. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the state for the next two days due to a strong system formed in the Bay of Bengal.
A heavy rain alert has been issued for Korba, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Janjgir-Champa, Jashpur, Kabirdham, Mungeli, Korea, Surajpur, Balrampur, and Gorella-Pendra-Marwahi today. Surajpur recorded the highest rainfall of 190 mm in the last 24 hours, while Ambikapur recorded 100 mm and Raipur 80 mm.
Sarangarh tops the state with the highest rainfall of 613 mm so far this monsoon season. Mungeli, Janjgir, and Bilaspur also received above-normal rainfall. Despite this, 11 districts in the state still recorded below-normal rainfall. The Meteorological Department has urged people to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and exercise special caution around rivers and streams.
