Rumblings of Uniform Civil Code intensify in Chhattisgarh: Public dialogue to begin from Durg division

Round of meetings on September 8 and 9

Raipur, September 2026: The state government has intensified its preparations for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh. The high-level committee formed to prepare the draft of the UCC in the state has now gone directly to the ground and is engaged in social and administrative coordination. As part of this strategy, a large group discussion and introductory meeting will be held on September 8th and 9th with the heads of all the districts of the Durg division, intellectuals, and public representatives.

It should be noted that this dialogue process is being initiated keeping in mind the far-reaching effects and provisions of the Uniform Civil Code. In this two-day brainstorming session, meetings will be held focusing on different districts of the Durg division. Representatives from Durg, Balod and Bemetara districts will participate in this meeting to be held in Durg on September 8 at 12 noon. Similarly, in the meeting to be held in Rajnandgaon on September 9 at 12 noon, Rajnandgaon, Kabirdham, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai and Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki districts will be represented.

The voice of every section will get a place in the draft

To ensure the participation of every segment of society in drafting the law, the committee has developed a comprehensive framework. Political parties, social and religious organizations, academics, Padma Shri awardees, representatives of corporations, boards, and commissions, and prominent and distinguished citizens have been specially invited to these meetings. The primary objective of this exercise is to develop an inclusive draft that protects the interests of every citizen of the state on both legal and social fronts.
