Deputy Chief Minister reviews the work of Municipal Corporations and District Headquarter Municipalities

Directs bodies to establish online system for payment of property tax, adopts effective methodology for regular review of all works and schemes

Instructions to prepare a comprehensive action plan for water conservation, rainwater harvesting and reuse of used water, and prepare a long-term plan keeping in mind the needs of the next 50 years.

Raipur. September 2026. Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Mr. Arun Saw today reviewed the work of all the Municipal Corporations and District Headquarters Municipalities of the state. In the meeting held at Vishram Bhawan in Nava Raipur, he instructed the Corporation Commissioners and Chief Municipal Officers to work responsibly along with accelerating the development of cities, cleanliness, revenue collection, implementation of schemes and construction works. He said that the urban body is not only an institution for spending the budget, but is also an institution for making plans for the future of the city, providing public facilities and welfare of the citizens. Principal Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department Mr. Sonmani Bora and Director Mr. Nileshkumar Kshirsagar also attended the review meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Saw said in the meeting that officials should work actively to ensure that urban development work and the benefits of state and central government schemes reach people on time. The benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and PM Svanidhi schemes should be extended to as many needy people as possible. To increase the income of municipal bodies, he directed that property surveys be conducted to identify new properties and that online payment facilities be developed in as many municipal bodies as possible for property tax collection. He asked municipal engineers to ensure speed and quality in construction work and to strictly inspect ongoing projects. He directed them to develop a methodology for regular review of revenue collection, construction work, cleanliness, and implementation of schemes on different days of the week.

The Deputy Chief Minister directed immediate action as soon as illegal encroachments and encroachments are detected. He said that in the absence of effective action against illegal construction, the civic body faces additional burden in the future regarding roads, water, electricity and other facilities. He instructed the Municipal Commissioners and CMOs to visit the areas every morning and inspect the cleanliness arrangements and construction works. This will not only reveal the ground reality of the works but will also provide information about the city's problems and people's feedback. He said that the possibilities of investment and tourism are increasing rapidly in Chhattisgarh. Therefore, the infrastructure of the cities should also be developed according to future needs.

Mr. Saw directed the urban bodies to organize brainstorming camps, keeping in mind the water needs of the next 50 years. Emphasizing on making a comprehensive plan for water conservation, rainwater harvesting and reuse of used water, he asked for preparing a strong system for drinking water supply to all the houses in the cities. To avoid future water crisis, there is a need to work by making a long-term strategy from now on. He said that the officials of the bodies are the main responsible officers who decide the image and development direction of the city, hence they should work with full capacity, sensitivity and accountability.

In a review meeting, Principal Secretary of the Urban Administration Department, Mr. Sonmani Bora, told officials that the responsibility of urban bodies is not only to complete construction projects and projects, but also to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the city's systems. In response to rapid urbanization and rising public aspirations, municipal bodies must prepare a roadmap for future needs and implement it effectively. Residents should feel the presence of the municipal body. They should be involved in various events and programs.
