Chhattisgarh to open 240 e-buses, concession agreement to be signed on October 11
An agreement will be signed between four municipal corporations and Chartered Speed Limited in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw.
The target is to start 20 buses each in Bilaspur and Bhilai by November 1.
Raipur, October 2026. A concession agreement will be signed on October 11th for the operation of 240 electric buses in four major cities of Chhattisgarh. In the presence of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Saw, the Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai, and Korba Municipal Corporations will sign a concession agreement with the selected agency, Chartered Speed Limited. This agreement, signed under the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Seva Yojana, will pave the way for the launch of modern and environmentally friendly public transport services in all four cities.
The concession agreement program, organized at the residence office of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Saw in Nava Raipur, will be attended by the mayors and commissioners of eight urban bodies of the state. These include Raipur Mayor Mrs. Meenal Choubey, Bilaspur Mayor Mrs. Pooja Vidhani, Korba Mayor Mrs. Sanju Devi Rajput, Durg Mayor Mrs. Alka Baghmar, Risali Mayor Mrs. Shashi Sinha, Bhilai Mayor Mr. Neeraj Pal, Birgaon Mayor Mr. Nandlal Devangan and Bhilai-Charoda Mayor Mr. Nirmal Kosare. Principal Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department Mr. Sonmani Bora, Director Mr. Nilesh Kshirsagar and SUDA CEO Mr. Sumit Agarwal will also be present during this time.
Principal Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department, Mr. Sonmani Bora, informed that in the first phase of the Prime Minister's e-Bus Service Scheme, there is a plan to operate a total of 240 electric buses in the four municipal corporations of the state. Of these, the maximum number of buses, 100, will run in Raipur. Durg-Bhilai and Bilaspur will get 50 buses each, and Korba will get 40 buses. The necessary preparations for the operation of the buses are in the final stages. The target has been set to start the operation of 20 electric buses each in Bilaspur and Bhilai symbolically by November 1, 2026.
Principal Secretary Mr. Bora stated that e-buses, along with passenger convenience, have also been carefully considered for safety. The buses will be equipped with modern and high-tech features. Passengers will be able to pay fares through mobile scanners and purchase tickets online. Six cameras will be installed on each bus for security. Passengers will also be able to access bus route information through a mobile app.
Mr. Bora stated that the objective of the Pradhan Mantri e-Bus Seva Yojana is to make urban public transport clean, convenient, and environmentally friendly. The operation of electric buses will help reduce dependence on conventional fuels, reduce air pollution, and carbon emissions. This will provide better public transportation to citizens and accelerate efforts to modernize urban transportation systems.
