Locked in the hospital, pregnant woman writhing outside! Newborn dies after delivery at the gate
Surajpur. A case of gross negligence in the health system has come to light in Surajpur. A pregnant woman was brought to the Ganeshpur sub-health center at night after she went into labor, but her family alleged that there was no doctor or staff there. The woman was unable to receive timely treatment due to the health center being locked. The situation became so dire that the woman delivered right in front of the hospital gate, but the newborn died shortly after birth.
Accused of locking the hospital gate at night
The entire incident took place at the Ganeshpur Primary Health Center in Surajpur district, where Anir Kumar Sarathi, a resident of Talwapara in the village panchayat of Pawanpuri, brought his pregnant wife for delivery at around 11:30 pm on October 14th. According to family members, the woman's labor pains increased shortly after arriving at the hospital, but the hospital gate was locked. Consequently, the woman was unable to receive timely medical attention and delivered the baby right in front of the hospital gate. The newborn subsequently died.
After the incident, seeing the woman's condition, her family took her to the Ramanujanagar Community Health Center, where she was treated. Meanwhile, angry family members and villagers gathered outside the Ganeshpur Primary Health Center on October 15th and began protesting over the death of the newborn. The protesters locked the hospital gate and expressed their anger against the health system. The villagers questioned that if government hospitals wouldn't provide treatment even in emergencies like childbirth at night, where would rural patients go?
Congress targeted the BJP government
Congress leader Sunil Agarwal also raised questions about health facilities, saying that the BJP government makes big claims about health, but the situation in rural areas is still dire. If the administration doesn't take concrete action in time, Congress will be forced to protest.
Doctor and ANM suspended
After the incident came to light, the health department swung into action and suspended the primary health center's in-charge doctor, Rajesh Patel, and ANM, Pramila Giri. CMHO Prashant Kumar Singh stated that the department will strive to ensure that such negligence does not occur again at any health center in the future and that necessary instructions will be issued to the staff.
The protest ended after assurances of action.
The villagers ended the protest after assurances of investigation and action, but the incident has raised serious questions about night-time health services and emergency delivery arrangements in rural areas
