RAIPUR : Panic gripped the capital's Amlidih Police Colony area on Wednesday morning when the body of a police constable was found hanging from a noose under suspicious circumstances. The deceased was identified as Laxmi Prasad Gabel, a constable posted in the Rajendra Nagar police station area. Police also recovered a suicide note from the scene.
Local residents informed the police that a man was hanging from a towel in an empty field in front of the colony. A police team arrived at the scene immediately after receiving the information. During the investigation, the body was exhumed and the surrounding area was searched.
He held himself responsible in the suicide note.

The constable was absent from duty for a long time.
According to preliminary investigations, Lakshmi Prasad had been suffering from alcohol addiction for a long time and had been absent from the police lines for approximately 17 months. During this period, departmental action was also pending against him.

The police have prepared a panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem. The scene of the incident, mobile phone call details, and other aspects are being investigated. Police say the post-mortem report and digital evidence will provide further clarity on the cause of death.
