CG Winter Session: House heated up over paddy procurement, opposition cornered the government
CG Winter Session: The winter session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly began on December 14th and will continue until December 19th, 2025. On the second day of the session, a major uproar erupted in the House over paddy procurement. The opposition leveled serious allegations of mismanagement in paddy procurement against the government, calling it a crucial issue for farmers.
During Zero Hour, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Charandas Mahant raised the issue of paddy procurement, stating that approximately 5 percent of farmers have not yet been registered. He alleged that even farmers with forest rights leases have not been registered. Mahant said that farmers are not receiving tokens on time, causing them mental stress and, in some cases, forcing them to resort to suicide. Furthermore, payments are being consistently delayed.
BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar sarcastically remarked that the Leader of the Opposition's body language and tone of voice did not indicate the situation was so serious. However, Dr. Mahant reiterated that he was extremely serious about the issue and that widespread mismanagement had occurred in paddy procurement.
During the CG Winter Session, Assembly Speaker Raman Singh accepted an adjournment motion regarding paddy procurement. He stated that this issue directly concerns the public and farmers, and therefore, it is important to discuss it.
Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also attacked the government. He said that the government simply doesn't want to buy paddy. Farmers' acreage is constantly decreasing, the portal frequently crashes, and network problems persist. Baghel alleged that farmers are wandering across the state, and many are unable to sell their crops.
