Sensitive government initiatives shape the future, Ganesh Kashyap's inspiring journey from special school to general school

Raipur. 12-year-old Ganesh Kashyap, a resident of Jhulan (Pakaria) village in the Pamgarh development block of Janjgir-Champa district, spent his childhood in difficult circumstances. Ganesh, who suffers from multiple disabilities, mild mental retardation, and cerebral palsy (hemiplegia), was born into a family with extremely poor financial circumstances. His parents had to work in other states to earn a living, making it impossible for him to attend school regularly. He was enrolled in a regular school, but his migratory life had almost halted his education.
The government's sensitive approach gave Ganesh a new direction at this time. The Government Multi-Disability Home cum Hostel in Janjgir, run by the Social Welfare Department, has emerged as a support for children with disabilities. Here, 50 children with multiple disabilities are provided with housing, food, special education, and training facilities completely free of charge

Ganesh was admitted to this hostel , a step towards self-reliance through special training
. Upon admission, Ganesh received academic training under the guidance of special educators, as well as training in social behavior, self-reliance, and self-help. Continuous efforts were made to improve his abnormal behavior and boost his self-confidence. Gradually, positive changes became evident in Ganesh, and his learning ability improved significantly. A
successful example of mainstream inclusion
: In line with the Social Welfare Department's objective of integrating children with disabilities into the mainstream, Ganesh was admitted to a regular school for his 5th grade examination. In the 2024-25 academic year, Ganesh successfully passed the 5th grade examination from a regular school. This achievement was a proud moment not only for him but for the entire institution. Today, Ganesh is a regular student in the 6th grade at the Government Secondary School, Pendri. He studies with full confidence and enjoys taking exams. His teachers are satisfied with his progress and are optimistic about his bright future.Ganesh's parents are delighted to see their child studying in a regular school and progressing. They express their emotional gratitude to the Social Welfare Department and the Government Multi-Disability Home cum Hostel, whose support has given their child a new identity and a new future.
