From Kutcha House to Pucca House: Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin makes Hemant Singh's dream come true
Janjgir-Champa. For Hemant Singh, a resident of Chandaniya village panchayat in the Akaltara development block, owning a permanent home was once a dream. Financially weak, Hemant Singh was forced to live in a mud house with thatched roofs and tin. Due to financial constraints, he was unable to repair his house or replace the thatch or tin. His family faced significant hardship during the rainy season.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) brought a new ray of hope to his life. In 2024-25, he was selected by the government and approved an amount of ₹1.20 lakh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin). This amount was directly transferred to his bank account, giving him the opportunity to build his own permanent home. After receiving the approved amount, beneficiary Hemant Singh completed the construction of his home. Today, he and his family live a respectable life in a safe, strong, and permanent home. He has also benefited from an LPG gas connection under the Ujjwala Yojana and the construction of a flush toilet under the Swachh Bharat Mission, which has improved his quality of life.
Family members say that schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin are proving to be a boon for poor families. This scheme not only provides shelter but also gives them the confidence to live a respectable life. Expressing gratitude to the government and administration, they say that this scheme is making the dream of owning a permanent home come true for millions of poor people like them.
