Action against illegal sand trade intensified on the strict instructions of the Chief Minister
Administration cracks down on illegal sand storage, seizes 135 cubic meters of sand in Gudlu
Over 83,000 rupees in fines and revenue collected, rule-breakers warned
Raipur, June 25, 2026/ In accordance with Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai's clear instructions regarding good governance, accountability, and conservation of natural resources, the Jashpur district administration is continuously taking strict action against illegal mining activities. In this regard, the Mineral Department has taken major action after conducting a prompt investigation into complaints regarding illegal sand storage and sand smuggling.
During the investigation, 135 cubic meters of sand was found illegally stored in the village panchayat of Gudlu in the Bagicha development block on June 19, 2026. Upon receiving the complaint, a team from the Mineral Department arrived at the scene and took immediate action, seizing the illegally stored sand. A case was registered under Section 21 of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
During the action, a fine of ₹40,780 was imposed in the case of illegal sand storage. Meanwhile, in four separate cases of illegal sand transportation, a sum of ₹42,736 was deposited in the mineral fund. Thus, a total of over ₹83,000 was collected in fines and revenue.
The Assistant Mining Officer stated that the campaign against illegal mining, transportation, and storage will continue in the district. Strict action will be taken against those violating the rules. The district administration's objective is to ensure the conservation of natural resources and prevent revenue loss to the government.
The administration has also appealed to the citizens to immediately inform the concerned authorities if they get any information about illegal mineral excavation, transportation or storage, so that effective control on such cases can be ensured by taking prompt action.
