Chhattisgarh achieves major milestone: Centre grants Rs 50 crore incentive for CBG ecosystem, becomes first state in the country
Raipur: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Chhattisgarh has achieved great success in the field of clean energy and green development.
In recognition of the state's efforts to develop the compressed biogas (CBG) ecosystem, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India, has approved an incentive of ₹50 crore for Chhattisgarh under the Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2026-27. Chhattisgarh has become the first state in the country to receive this amount under this scheme.
Expressing happiness over this achievement, Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai said that the state government is continuously working for clean energy, environmental protection and increasing the income of farmers.
He said that Chhattisgarh is rapidly gaining national recognition in the field of biofuels, and this achievement is an important step in that direction. The Chief Minister also congratulated the team of the Energy Department and the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority.
The Chief Minister informed that the Chhattisgarh Compressed Biogas Policy-2026, which was notified on June 8, 2026, is based on the scientific use of agricultural residue, paddy straw and other biomass to produce clean gaseous fuel.
These will provide farmers with additional income by selling biomass, while the organic fertilizer produced from the plants will promote natural farming. It will also reduce problems like stubble burning and strengthen environmental protection.
To give impetus to CBG projects, a review meeting was also held on August 3 at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Energy Subodh Kumar Singh.
Biomass collection, single-window clearance, use of biofertilizers, departmental coordination, and increasing investment were discussed. Sumit Sarkar, Chief Executive Officer of the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, gave a presentation on proposed CBG plants in the state, investment possibilities, and future action plans.
The government aims to make Chhattisgarh the leading state in the country in the field of biofuel and clean energy.
