Delhi. The monsoon's impact has intensified in many states across the country. Heavy rains have disrupted normal life in areas ranging from Jammu and Kashmir to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The Amarnath Yatra was suspended from Jammu on Saturday due to the threat of rain and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir. The Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain, flash floods and landslides in the Jammu region until August 11.

Heavy rain in Delhi on Friday left many areas waterlogged. Vehicles were stranded and traffic jams stretched for several kilometers, with water up to four feet deep on major roads, including the Delhi-Gurugram Highway.

The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the capital on Saturday as well. Delhi has already recorded 127 mm of rain in the first week of August, the highest for this period since 2011.

Nearly 25 days of continuous rain in Uttar Pradesh has caused the Ganges and other rivers to overflow. In Varanasi, the Ganges' rising water level has submerged ghats, cutting off connectivity to 84 ghats. Water has also entered several small temples.

In Farrukhabad, eight houses were swept away by the river due to erosion, while in Ballia, the Saryu River has already engulfed 27 houses. In Agra, a road caved in, creating a 20-foot-deep crater.

The effects of the incessant rain in Nepal are also visible in Bihar. In Muzaffarpur, the Bagmati River is in spate, flooding several villages with water up to three feet deep. In Bagaha, the Gandak River has entered nearly 300 homes.

Affected people are being evacuated to safer locations. Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have closed 162 roads, including the Chandigarh-Manali and Mandi-Pathankot highways.

Uttarakhand is also on alert for landslides and rising river levels. Several districts in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar have also been warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
