Major accident averted on Phuket-Delhi flight: Plane out of pilot's control for 4 seconds, plummeting 300 feet
New Delhi. Initial investigations into the Air India Phuket-Delhi flight accident have revealed a startling revelation. According to media reports, during the August 4th incident, all three hydraulic systems of the plane suddenly failed. This caused the plane to lose control for approximately four seconds and plummet to a depth of approximately 300 feet.
The flight reportedly carried 137 passengers and eight crew members. The sudden descent of the plane caused severe jolts to the passengers and cabin crew. Twenty passengers and four crew members were injured in the incident. Several passengers were thrown from their seats and struck the plane's ceiling.
According to preliminary investigations, the aircraft's green, blue, and yellow hydraulic systems all failed simultaneously. The hydraulic systems control many vital components of the aircraft. This failure affected the aircraft's control system.
The investigation also revealed that the plane's autopilot had also disconnected during this time. After receiving a warning in the cockpit, the co-pilot attempted to control the plane, but the control inputs had no immediate effect due to the hydraulic system being shut down.
A few seconds later, the hydraulic systems reactivated. The nose of the plane then dropped sharply, causing another jolt for the passengers. However, the pilot managed to regain control of the aircraft, landing the flight safely in Delhi.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Agency (AAIB) of India is investigating the matter. Airbus, the aircraft manufacturer, is also providing technical assistance. Investigative agencies are analyzing data from the black boxes. Initial reports suggest a malfunction in the hydraulic system's pressure sensor, but the exact cause of the accident will be determined only after the final report is released.
