Salute to the martyrs of Jheeram, tree plantation in their memory, meeting with the families of the martyrs

Raipur, August 15, 2026/ On the occasion of Independence Day, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Shri Vijay Sharma visited the Jhiram Valley in Bastar district to pay tribute to the martyrs. He planted a tree in their memory and, paying homage to their sacrifice, remembered them with slogans of reverence and resolve. During this, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma announced that the memorial built in memory of the Jhiram martyrs will soon be transformed into a memorable one, and a proposal is being prepared for this.

On this occasion, regional MLA Shri Vinayak Goyal, Mayor Jagdalpur Shri Sanjay Pandey and other public representatives of the area along with Bastar Commissioner Shri Doman Singh, IG Shri BN Meena, Collector Shri Akash Chikkara, Superintendent of Police Shri Shalabh Sinha and other officers were present.

The Jhiram incident is a terrible disaster for Chhattisgarh.

Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sharma said that the Jheeram incident was a terrible tragedy for Chhattisgarh. In this incident, we lost senior and capable leaders of the state. Chhattisgarh will never forget the sacrifices of senior state leaders Mr. Vidyacharan Shukla, former minister late Mr. Nandkumar Patel, and the late Leader of the Opposition Mr. Mahendra Karma, along with numerous public representatives, security personnel, and citizens.

Shri Sharma said that today he has come to tell the martyrs of Jheeram that the power which kept Bastar under the shadow of fear and violence for years, which did not allow the reach of the Constitution and democracy to reach the remote areas of Bastar, which tried to stop the hoisting of the tricolor and blocked the pace of development, that power has been uprooted.

Bastar is now breathing in open and free air.
Mr. Sharma said that today Bastar is once again breathing in open and free air. In this three-day Bastar Tiranga Yatra, we covered 600 km in five districts of Bastar and gave the message of peace to everyone through the Tiranga Yatra. On the eve of Independence Day, by hoisting the tricolor on the hills of Karregutta, the last stronghold of the Naxalites, we have given the message to the entire country that now the Constitution of India will be implemented in every corner of the country. Now no one will be able to stain this land with the blood of innocents by force of gun. He said that the dream of the martyrs of Jheeram was a Bastar where democracy, peace, development and trust would prevail. Today Bastar is moving rapidly in that direction.

Met the families of the martyrs, collected the soil of the heroes

On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sharma met and honored the families of the martyrs. He informed them that the government is constructing a memorial in honor of all the martyrs. The families of the martyrs provided sacred soil from Jheeram to the Superintendent of Police for collection.

Bastar was won not by bullets but by courage and faith.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that there is no one to stop Bastar now. The forces that forced Bastar's youth onto the path of violence have weakened. We won Bastar not with bullets alone, but with courage, faith, and a commitment to development. He stated that the government has worked tirelessly to bring misguided youth back into the mainstream of society by abandoning the path of violence. As a result, more than 3,000 people have chosen the path of rehabilitation and renounced violence. This change signals a new dawn of peace and trust in Bastar. He added that while we lost the top leadership of our state in the Jheeram incident, it is unfortunate that some people consider the Naxalites, directly or indirectly involved in this incident, as role models.
