Raipur, October 5, 2026/ The innovations and effective working methods being done by the Chhattisgarh government towards providing affordable and dignified housing to the families of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Low Income Group (LIG) have received great recognition at the national level.
Chhattisgarh has been awarded at the national level by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India for its excellent practice in providing housing through land reservation for EWS-LIG category and AHP (Affordable Housing in Partnership).
Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Tokhan Sahu, presented the award to Chhattisgarh at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today on the occasion of World Habitat Day. On behalf of the state, Principal Secretary of Urban Administration and Development Department, Shri Sonmani Bora and Chief Executive Officer-cum-State Mission Director, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), State Urban Development Agency (SUDA), Shri Sumit Agarwal received the award.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the state government is continuously working towards increasing the availability of housing for economically weaker and low-income families in urban areas, as well as providing them a dignified life with better civic amenities. Under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration and Development Minister Shri Arun Saw, the department is effectively monitoring housing projects at every stage, from approval, land availability, quality of construction and timely completion.
Our resolve is to provide permanent housing to every eligible family.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the national recognition of Chhattisgarh's work under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) is a matter of pride for the entire state. This recognition of our initiatives to provide affordable housing through land reservation and AHP for economically weaker and low-income families is a testament to the state government's commitment to public welfare and its results-oriented approach.
He said that Chhattisgarh is fully committed to carrying forward Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge of "Housing for All." A permanent home is not just four walls and a roof, but the foundation of a family's security, dignity, and a better future. The state government is striving to ensure that no eligible family in the state is deprived of a permanent home and that needy families have access to quality housing with basic amenities.
Land for 25,413 houses was acquired without any government expenditure.
Land availability has been one of the biggest challenges in building housing for the poor and low-income groups in urban areas. To address this challenge, the Chhattisgarh government has effectively implemented land reservations for EWS and LIG categories in private colonies.
As a result of this arrangement, land has become available for the construction of 25,413 houses in the state, free of government expenditure. This includes 17,790 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 1.0 and 7,623 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0.
