A new example of water supply at the mouth of Abujhmad
The picture of village Kachora changed due to Jal Jeevan Mission
Raipur, October 2026: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai's commitment to providing basic amenities and government benefits to remote areas of Chhattisgarh is paying off. In Kachora, a dependent village of Gram Panchayat Mahora, located approximately 55 kilometers from the district headquarters, Narayanpur, the Jal Jeevan Mission has written a new chapter of ease and prosperity in the daily lives of villagers. Under the Collector's able guidance, development schemes are being ensured to reach every person in the district, and this remote village is a living example of this.
Journey from water struggle to tap in every home
Due to the difficult geographical conditions of this village, which has 24 families mainly dependent on agriculture, the villagers, especially the women, had to endure hard work and labour daily to arrange for drinking water. To provide a permanent solution to this problem, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, a pipeline of about 2,084 meters long was laid in the village and two solar-based water tanks with a capacity of 10,000 liters were constructed. Today, 100% (24) families of the village have access to pure and safe drinking water through taps, saving both time and labour of the villagers.
The resolve to conserve water was awakened by 'Har Ghar Jal Utsav'
Upon the successful completion of the project, the village celebrated the "Har Ghar Jal Utsav" with great enthusiasm. Through the "Jal Arpan" program held at the Gram Sabha on this occasion, villagers took a collective pledge to conserve water sources, maintain cleanliness, and save every drop of water. Villagers were made aware that, along with access to facilities, responsible use and maintenance of water sources are the foundation for their sustainability.
The foundation of the scheme was strengthened by public participation
To ensure the scheme remains self-sustaining and streamlined, responsibilities have been divided at the local level, including pump operation and maintenance, water quality testing, monitoring, and management. The success of Kachora village is a living testament to the fact that when government policy and local public participation come together, positive social and structural change is possible even in remote areas. Pure tap water, delivered to every household, not only provides protection from disease but also elevates the standard of living of villagers, fulfilling the dream of a strong and self-reliant village.
