Jawaharlal Nehru Smriti Medical College, has achieved another remarkable achievement in the medical field. The team of the Cancer Surgery Department once again saved the life of a 29-year-old male patient by successfully operating on a rare and complex cancer of the chest; mediastinal germ cell tumor. The patient had reached the hospital with complaints of a lump in the chest, difficulty in breathing and constant pain.
Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Head of the Department of Cancer Surgery, provided detailed information about the case, stating that the patient had previously been undergoing treatment at the Cancer Department of AIIMS Raipur, where a biopsy confirmed a mediastinal germ cell tumor. Initial examination revealed a lump in the center of the chest, approximately 13 by 18 by 16 centimeters, and was adherent to large blood vessels near the heart. Given the high risk, AIIMS Raipur doctors decided to administer chemotherapy first.
The patient received six cycles of chemotherapy from January 2025 to June 2025, which reduced the size of the tumor to 4 x 3 x 4 centimeters. The patient was then referred from AIIMS Raipur to Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Head of the Department of Cancer Surgery at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Gupta decided on surgery after thoroughly examining all the test reports. Given the sensitive nature of the tumor, the Head of the Cardiac Surgery Department was consulted, and surgical fitness was obtained from the Anesthesiology Department. The complex surgery, which lasted approximately 3 to 4 hours, involved the removal of the tumor along with a portion of the left lung with utmost skill.
The surgery was a complete success, and the patient was discharged from the hospital in a healthy state after a few days of treatment. Following treatment, the patient has been returning to the hospital for follow-up visits periodically. Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Dr. K.K. Sahu, Dr. Kishan Soni, Dr. Gunjan Agarwal, Dr. Sushrut Agarwal, Dr. Samridh, Dr. Lavanya, Dr. Sonam, and Dr. Anil played a key role in this complex operation.
Mediastinal germ cell tumor is a rare cancer originating from germ cells in the middle of the chest, typically found in men between the ages of 20 and 40. Its main symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain. This cancer is treated with chemotherapy and surgery, in which a surgical oncologist and radiation oncologist work together. If this cancer is detected early and treated appropriately, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent.

India-New Zealand T20 match: Entry arrangements to be changed at Raipur Stadium
Raipur . Chhattisgarh Cricket Association (CSCS) has intensified preparations for the T-20 match between India and New Zealand to be held on January 23 at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. This time, keeping in mind the convenience and safety of the spectators, major changes are being made in the entry system of the stadium. Taking lessons
from the chaos and protest of spectators during the ODI match held in December, the Cricket Association has decided that the entry and exit timings at more than half a dozen gates will be fixed in advance for the T-20 match. Its purpose is to control the crowd and avoid chaos. It's worth noting that a large number of spectators arrived at the stadium late in the evening during the ODI match. Several gates were closed after the seats were filled, leading to angry protests and, in some instances, breaking down gates to gain entry. Spectators claimed they were denied entry despite having expensive tickets. The Cricket Association claims that such a situation will not recur during the T20 match.
Members of the Cricket Association will be stationed at every gate.
Negligence by private security guards was also blamed for the disruption in entry arrangements during the previous match. It's alleged that people without tickets were allowed inside, causing inconvenience to valid ticket holders. This time, the Cricket Association has decided to deploy its members at all entry gates. They will monitor the entry process and keep an eye on the security agency.
Late-arriving spectators will not be allowed entry.
Cricket Association Director Vijay Shah stated that spectators must enter the stadium through their designated gates at the designated time. Entry will be denied if they arrive after the scheduled time, and the responsibility lies with the spectators themselves. He added that frequent gate openings and closings impact security and order.
Help of police administration is also being taken
Cricket association is also taking help of police administration to strengthen the entry system. After reviewing the past mistakes, suggestions will be taken from the police regarding crowd control, security and movement. Based on these suggestions, this time the system will be made more effective.
Cricket association has reiterated that the timing of opening and closing of gates will be decided soon and made public. The aim is that the spectators do not face any kind of problem during the India-New Zealand T-20 match and the match can be enjoyed in a safe environment.

Port Blair/Raipur . Raipur MP and senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal attended a meeting of the Lok Sabha's Estimates Committee in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, on Saturday. The meeting focused on the role of banks in promoting the micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSME) sector. The meeting
reviewed the effectiveness of banking support in various regions of the country, especially in states like Chhattisgarh, which have immense industrial and entrepreneurial potential. In the meeting, MP Brijmohan Agrawal gave clear suggestions to the banks, saying that MSME is the backbone of India's economy, and if banks adopt a pro-active approach in states like Chhattisgarh, local youth, artisans and small traders can be made self-reliant. He suggested to the banks that excessive formalities should be avoided while giving loans to first generation entrepreneurs. Startups, service sector, research based enterprises and new age businesses should be accepted as MSME. Timely loans should be made available to eligible beneficiaries under schemes like PM Vishwakarma, PM Mudra. MP Brijmohan Agrawal said, "There is no shortage of talent and resources in regions like Chhattisgarh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. All that is needed is a positive approach from banks and a balanced policy. Inclusive development is possible only by giving equal importance to both large industries and the MSME sector."The meeting recommended improving the credit-to-deposit (CD) ratio, tailoring loan products to local needs, and enhancing branch-level decision-making in rural and semi-urban areas, especially in states like Chhattisgarh. According to data presented to the committee, the CD ratio in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has increased from 52.15% in 2020-21 to 59.65% in 2024-25.
