Weather Update: Cold wave alert in Chhattisgarh, mercury plummets in several districts; bonfires arranged in Raipur
Many parts of the state have been experiencing a drop in temperatures since the beginning of December. Ambikapur recorded a minimum temperature of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius, Raipur 12 to 13 degrees Celsius, and Durg 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. The cold is also increasing in the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi region. The minimum temperature in Pendra reached 7 degrees Celsius, while in Mainpat, the night temperature dropped below 4 degrees Celsius, and dewdrops are freezing and turning into ice.
In the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature of the state was recorded at 29.6 degrees Celsius in Durg, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 5.2 degrees in Ambikapur.
Raipur Municipal Corporation arranged for bonfires
In view of the increasing impact of the cold wave in Raipur, the Municipal Corporation has started arranging bonfires at several locations to provide relief to the general public. The corporation has ordered bonfires to be lit overnight at more than 12 locations, so that the homeless, passersby, and those in need can get immediate relief from the cold.
On the instructions of Mayor Meenal Choubey and Commissioner Vishwadeep, all the zone commissioners and zone health officers are staying in the field at night and monitoring the arrangements for bonfires.
