Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai took another initiative towards making Bagiya a model irrigation cluster.

A 49-member team of farmers led by the Collector was sent to study the water projects in Madhya Pradesh.

Jashpurnagar . hief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has taken another important initiative towards the effective implementation of the Samriddhi – Command Area Development and Water Management Modernization (MCAD) scheme in Jashpur district. He sent selected farmers of the district from Bagiya yesterday for a study tour of the Mohanpura and Kundaliya major irrigation projects of Madhya Pradesh from January 16 to 20, 2026, before the construction of the proposed pressurized pipe irrigation network in the Bagiya cluster.

Under the leadership of the Collector, a total of 49 members including 26 farmers and officers and employees from 13 villages left for Bilaspur by bus. All the members will leave for Madhya Pradesh by train from Bilaspur at 11 am today. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, while wishing the farmers, personally flagged off the bus of this study team from his personal residence Bagiya. While discussing with the farmers, the Chief Minister said that they should closely observe the modern irrigation systems, water management techniques, crop pattern and functioning of water consumer committees there so that Bagiya Samriddhi Project can be made an ideal model for the district.

He said that under the Bagiya Cluster, the state's first irrigation system will be developed using underground pipe systems. This will eliminate the need for land acquisition for the construction of canals, thus reducing inconvenience to farmers. Furthermore, irrigation through pipes will prevent water misuse and wastage. During the study tour, farmers will gain firsthand experience of the water management structures installed at the Mohanpura and Kundaliya projects, including pipe network operations, farm-level distribution systems, solar-powered pumping, water metering systems, modern and Internet-of-Things-based monitoring systems, and the role of water user committees. This will teach farmers how scientific irrigation methods can increase crop productivity and prevent water wastage. District Panchayat Chairman Salik Sai, Collector Rohit Vyas, Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, public representatives, and members of the public were present.

It is noteworthy that, for the development of the Samriddhi Command Area and the modernization of water management, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation, Government of India, has approved the provision of irrigation facilities to 4,831 hectares of land in the Bagiya Cluster in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh through a pressurized pipeline irrigation system from the Maini River. In this context, this visit was organized to assess the implementation of the proposed pressurized pipe network under the Bagiya Barrage cum Pressurized Lift Irrigation Scheme. Under the Samriddhi-MCAD scheme, modern irrigation facilities are being developed in 13 villages of the Bagiya Cluster, providing assured irrigation to thousands of hectares of agricultural land during both the Kharif and Rabi seasons. This project will replace the traditional canal system with a pipe-based irrigation network, ensuring optimal utilization of every drop of water. Through such study tours, farmers will not only be beneficiaries but also become active participants in the project. After returning, these farmers will also share technical information with other farmers, due to which the implementation of Bagiya Samriddhi M CAD scheme will become more effective and sustainable.
