Lingo Dev Karsad Fair, a symbol of cultural heritage, from April 2
Kanker. The Lingo Dev Karsaad Fair, held in Semargaon, a symbol of the district's cultural heritage, will be held this year from April 2nd to 4th. This event is not only a religious ritual but also a celebration of the unity, tradition, and cultural identity of the tribal community. Lingo Dev holds a special place in the tribal community as a Pata Guru (a guide and enlightener). He is believed to have played a crucial role in organizing society, preserving traditions, and establishing values. This is why Lingo Dev is considered not just a deity but the spiritual guru of the entire community.
The fair's most significant feature is its widespread participation, with thousands of devotees from Chhattisgarh, as well as states like Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand, arriving with hundreds of traditional deity forms—palans, anga, parasols, and other symbols. This gathering, in essence, takes the form of a Dev Sammelan (conference of deities), a remarkable confluence of cultural diversity and faith. The reverberations of the Mandar, Dhol, and traditional musical instruments fill the entire area with spiritual energy. Devotees dressed in traditional costumes express their faith through dance and rituals. Strict traditions surrounding entry and worship at the Devgudi are also distinctive features of this event. Traditional attire is mandatory for men, while certain rules are strictly followed to maintain discipline and purity. This system keeps centuries-old traditions alive even today. It is also noteworthy that this event is not limited to the tribal community; other communities also actively participate, which conveys a message of social harmony. This year, for the first time, increased administrative involvement has been achieved, and efforts are being made to ensure better arrangements for the devotees. Even in this era of modernity, the Lingo Dev Karsad Fair remains a powerful medium for preserving the cultural roots of Bastar. This festival not only keeps traditions alive but also connects future generations to their identity and hecontex
