Distribution of sarees to Anganwadi workers as per fixed criteria and transparent process

00 Sarees will be replaced if they do not meet the set standards
Raipur. The distribution of sarees to Anganwadi workers and assistants by the Women and Child Development Department has been done as per the set criteria and transparent process, but wherever irregularities have been found, corrections are being made and if required, the sarees will be replaced.

The Women and Child Development Department has taken action on complaints regarding the length and quality of sarees provided to Anganwadi workers and assistants. According to the department, under central government provisions, every Anganwadi worker and assistant is provided with two saree uniforms annually, at a fixed price of ₹500 per saree. Based on this, an order was placed with the Chhattisgarh Khadi and Village Industries agency to supply approximately 1.94 lakh sarees to the state. Standards for the color, design, and length of the sarees were set at the state level. Accordingly, the saree length is 5.50 meters, and the total length, including the blouse piece, is 6.30 meters. Before supplying the sarees to the Women and Child Development Department, the Chhattisgarh Khadi and Village Industries agency's samples were tested by the technical agency, RITES Limited, Mumbai, and the quality was found to be satisfactory.

Sarees were distributed to Anganwadi workers and assistants. However, after the distribution, some complaints were received from Durg, Dhamtari, Raigarh and Kabirdham districts. These included complaints of the sarees being short, having loose threads, and fading of color. The department immediately formed an inquiry committee to investigate these matters. The investigation revealed short length and flaws in weaving in some cases. The department says that since the sarees were cotton, color fading was seen in some places during the first wash, but later the color remained normal.

The Women and Child Development Department has now directed all districts to re-inspect the saris and report any deficiencies found. The Khadi and Village Industries Board has also been given clear instructions to replace such saris with new ones that meet the standards.

The department also informed that in the work order issued itself, the condition of maintaining quality and changing the material on receiving complaint was written for the agency. The department says that no beneficiary will be allowed to suffer any loss and all Anganwadi workers and assistants will be provided sarees as per the saree standards.
