Census 2027: The entire process will be digital, counting will be done in two phases.
Raipur - A major update has emerged regarding the 2027 Census in Chhattisgarh. Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department, Manoj Kumar Pingua, and the Director of Census Operations stated in a press conference that this time the census will be conducted entirely digitally and will be completed in two phases.
According to officials, the first phase will be house listing and housing enumeration
, which will run from May 1 to May 30, 2026. The second phase, the population census, will be conducted in February 2027. Detailed social, economic, and demographic information about each individual will be collected in this phase. The digital format of the census is unique to this year's census. Citizens have been given the option of self-enumeration, allowing them to enter their information online between April 16 and April 30, 2026. After the self-enumeration is complete, each family will be issued an SE ID. Enumerators will then go door-to-door to verify this information. The survey will be completed through a mobile app. During the first phase, enumerators will go door-to-door asking approximately 33 questions using a mobile app. This entire process will be conducted digitally and under the Census Act of 1948. According to this law, it is mandatory for citizens to provide accurate information. What questions will be asked? During the census, information will be collected on several important aspects: Household information: House use (residential, shop, or other) House condition (kutcha, pucca, semi-pucca) Ownership (owned, rented) Number of rooms and adequate space Type of roof, walls, and floor Basic amenities Source and availability of drinking water Toilet and its type Electricity connection Fuel (LPG, wood, coal) Garbage disposal and bathing facilities Modern amenities Mobile, internet/Wi-Fi TV, refrigerator Computer or laptop Family information: Total number of members Age, gender, marital status Education and employment Source of income Socio-economic status Disability or serious illness Benefits of government schemes Availability of bank account and vehicle Why is this census important? Data collection through a digital census will be fast, accurate, and transparent. This will help the government in better implementing schemes and formulating policies. Officials have appealed to citizens to cooperate in this national process by providing accurate and complete information.
