Delhi/Kolkata/Chennai. Counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections in five states is underway, and early trends have made the political picture extremely interesting. In West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears to be heading for a majority, while in Kerala, the Congress party has made a strong tsunami-like performance, taking a strong lead. Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, actor Vijay's party, TVK, has made a surprising performance.

Counting of votes is underway in 293 of West Bengal's 294 assembly seats. Early trends show the BJP gaining a clear lead, potentially leading to a major political upset in the state. The Trinamool Congress is facing a tough fight, and contests remain tight in several seats.

Results are also coming in for Kerala's 140 seats, where the Congress alliance has performed strongly and taken the lead. This has created an atmosphere of excitement within the party camp, and is being seen as a sign of a return to power.

Actor Vijay's TVK party has surprised everyone in the ongoing vote count for 234 seats in Tamil Nadu. The party appears to be in a strong position in several seats, creating new dynamics in the state's traditional political landscape.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera, reacting to the trends in Bengal, said that we should wait for now, because the final picture will be clear only by late night and the situation may also change.

For now, the entire nation is watching these results. As the counting progresses, the political picture will become clearer.
