From darkness to light – good governance brought hope to Krishna and Anita
Raipur, May 6, 2026 / When spirits are high and the government supports, even physical obstacles cannot hinder progress. The story of Krishna Pahadi Korwa and his wife, Anita, who live in the village of Govindpur (Sargadi) in Chhattisgarh's Balrampur-Ramanujganj district, has become a living example of good governance and sensitivity. Belonging to a special backward tribe, the couple is visually impaired, but the smile on their faces today speaks to the government's commitment to development for every person.
The key to happiness was received from the Prime Minister
The most historic moment in the lives of Krishna and Anita's family came on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of the State's founding (2025). Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi personally handed over the keys to Krishna's permanent home, built under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Yojana and PM Awas Yojana (Gramin). This wasn't just a concrete structure, but the dignity the couple had envisioned after years of deprivation and insecurity. Through a combination of their hard work and government funding, they not only built a home but also laid a secure foundation for their future.
MNREGA – A new chapter in self-reliance
Along with a pucca house, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) became this family's biggest support for economic independence. Despite being visually impaired, Krishna and Anita refused to give up. They serve water to workers at MNREGA sites. With 86 days of employment in 2024-25 and 14 days of work so far in the current financial year, they no longer have to depend on anyone for their daily needs. For Krishna and Anita, good governance means not just government assistance, but the opportunity to live with dignity and a new ray of hope for the future.
Security cover of plans and changed life
The government's multifaceted schemes have created a protective circle around this family. They include access to rations under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana, guaranteed health coverage through the Ayushman Bharat card, eliminating medical concerns, and social security through the Disability Pension, along with continued financial support.
'From Darkness to Light' is a symbolic story of the positive impact of good governance in the lives of Krishna and Anita, showing how government schemes, transparency and accountability can transform the lives of common citizens.
