Raipur, May 18, 2026 / Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, Chhattisgarh farmers are being encouraged to cultivate horticultural crops alongside traditional farming. Farmers in Jashpur district are becoming economically empowered by earning significant incomes through pear cultivation. Thanks to its naturally favorable climate and the technical guidance of the Horticulture Department, Jashpur has now become one of the state's leading pear-producing districts.
In Jashpur district, more than 3,500 farmers cultivate pears on approximately 3,500 hectares. The district produces approximately 175,000 quintals of pears annually. This has significantly increased the income of thousands of farming families, and the district's reputation as a fruit producer is steadily strengthening.
Jashpur pears are especially sought after in various states across the country for their flavor, quality, and attractive shape. Pear shipments from areas like Sanna, Pandarapath, Kanwai, Mahua, Sonkari, Manora, Dhawaipai, and Geedha in the district are shipped to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and other states. The fruit is carefully packed in crates and transported to markets.
Pear cultivation is proving profitable for farmers. On average, farmers earn an annual income of 100,000 to 150,000 rupees per acre. This is strengthening the rural economy and farmers are increasingly drawn to modern horticulture.
With the support of the Horticulture Department and NABARD, farmers are provided with technical training, guidance on planting, horticulture management, and marketing. The Pear Area Expansion Scheme is being implemented under the National Horticulture Mission, through which grants and technical assistance are provided to farmers.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai's initiative has given a new impetus to horticulture-based agriculture in Jashpur district. Pear cultivation is not only increasing farmers' incomes but also establishing Jashpur as an emerging fruit production hub in the state.
