Raipur - The Jal Jeevan Mission, implemented in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, is becoming a means of improving living standards in rural areas. In the forested village of Bengta, approximately 20 kilometers from the Jashpur district headquarters, this scheme has brought positive change to the lives of villagers by alleviating the drinking water crisis.

Despite geographical challenges, a high-level water tank of 10 kilolitre capacity has been established in the village by the Public Health Engineering Department, through which pure drinking water is being provided regularly to 61 families of both the settlements of the village.

Before the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, villagers relied on streams and wells for drinking water. Women and children had to travel long distances daily to fetch water. The water crisis worsened during the summer season, while during the rainy season, muddy and unsafe water posed a risk of waterborne diseases.

Now, every household has access to clean drinking water through tap connections. This saves time for women and children, allowing them to focus more on livelihood activities. Access to clean water has also improved the health of villagers and reduced waterborne diseases.

Village Bengta has been certified as "Water for Every Home" by the Public Health Engineering Department, Jashpur. Villagers said that the Jal Jeevan Mission has not only ensured drinking water in the village, but has also made life safer, simpler, and better.
