Rohit Sharma joins Sehwag's club, completes 16,000 runs as an opener; Shubman Gill sets ODI record

Dharamsala. India got off to a strong start in the series by defeating Afghanistan by 7 wickets in the first ODI. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 25 overs a side, but even this shortened match created several significant records. Captain Shubman Gill and veteran batsman Rohit Sharma achieved significant milestones.

Rohit Sharma has reached a new milestone in international cricket by completing 16,000 runs as an opener. He achieved this feat during his 16-run innings against Afghanistan. Rohit became the second Indian batsman and the seventh in the world to achieve this feat. Previously, this record was held by Virender Sehwag from India. The record for most runs as an opener is held by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, who scored 19,298 runs.

Rohit Sharma set another record in this match. He became the oldest player to play in an ODI for India. He broke the record held by former all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath, taking the field at the age of 39 years and 44 days.

Meanwhile, captain Shubman Gill also made history. Gill reached 3,000 runs in ODI cricket, becoming the Indian batsman to reach this milestone in the fewest innings. He achieved this feat in just 62 innings. He is surpassed globally only by South Africa's Hashim Amla, who reached 3,000 runs in 57 innings.

Afghanistan's Rahmanullah Gurbaz also performed brilliantly in the match. He scored a century in 48 balls against India, the fastest century by an Afghan batsman in ODIs. He broke Mohammad Shahzad's 16-year-old record.

Indian bowler Gurnur Brar made a brilliant debut, taking three wickets. He made an impact in his very first ODI. India performed well with both bat and ball to secure an easy victory in a rain-affected match.
