Raipur. Institutions generating large amounts of waste in the state will now be digitally monitored. Hotels, malls, hospitals, bus stands, large colonies, and government offices will no longer be able to avoid waste management. The government will monitor every major waste generator through geo-tagging

Following a directive from the Central Pollution Control Board, municipal bodies have begun compiling lists of establishments that generate 100 kg or more of solid waste daily. A special online monitoring system is also being developed for this purpose.

It is estimated that approximately 1.15 lakh government, private, and commercial establishments in the state will be covered. Officials have been tasked with conducting ward-level surveys and compiling the list.

According to the new rules, no large housing society, hospital, school, market, or project will receive approval unless it reserves a separate space for waste management on its premises. Environmental NOCs and project certificates will also be issued subject to this condition.

Violators will face heavy fines. Institutions that generate more than 5 tons of waste daily will be required to apply separately to the Environment Department.

Big hotels, resorts, hospitals, shopping malls, colleges, universities, railway stations, airports, stadiums, big markets and marriage venues will be included in the scope of this new system.

The government is also encouraging the installation of biomethanation plants near fruit, vegetable, mutton, and fish markets to produce gas and fertilizer from waste. Parks and industries will be required to process waste on their premises.

The state generates approximately 3,800 tons of waste daily, while in Raipur alone, this figure is 700 to 750 tons per day. Raipur spends ₹5 to 6 crore (500,000 to 600,000 rupees) each month on waste processing.
