00 Government's big decision under National Education Policy-2020
Raipur. Chhattisgarh government has taken a big decision in accordance with National Education Policy-2020, Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act-2009 and the guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The state government has fixed the minimum age limit for admission in Class 1 in all the schools of the state at 6 years from the upcoming academic session. In this regard, School Education Secretary Dr. Kamalpreet Singh has issued necessary instructions to the concerned departments and all the District Education Officers
Age will be determined as of April 1st, with these rules for different classes.
According to the instructions issued by the School Education Secretary, to strengthen children's foundational stage and bring uniformity to the admission process at the primary level, admission will be based on the child's age as on April 1st of the respective academic session. The age limits for different classes have been determined as follows Nursery (Kindergarten-1) must be over 3 years old and under 4 years old. Similarly, KG-1 (Kindergarten-2) must be over 4 years old and under 5 years old, KG-2 (Kindergarten-3) must be over 5 years old and under 6 years old, and Class 1 must be over 6 years old and under 7 years old. For the convenience of parents and children, the government has also relaxed
the age limit by three months
. Under this rule, if a child fails to reach the required age on April 1st, but reaches the required age by July 1st, they will be admitted to the relevant class with a maximum three-month relaxation. This new system applies equally to all government, non-government (private), and aided schools in the state. Furthermore, this
rule will
also apply to admissions to the 25% reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE).
These students will get exemption
As per the departmental instructions, if a student is taking admission directly in class 1 after passing (being promoted) from pre-primary class of any recognized school, then this new age limit will not be applicable on him. Such students will be given admission on the basis of their date of birth recorded in their transfer certificate, mark sheet or score card.
Instructions for strict compliance and publicity
The School Education Department has directed all the District Education Officers to ensure strict compliance of these rules through their subordinate Block Education Officers, Cluster Coordinators and all the school heads. Along with this, instructions have also been given to widely publicize these new provisions for the information and convenience of the parents.
