Raipur, August 2026: The "More Village, More Water" campaign launched by the Chhattisgarh government is transforming water conservation into a mass movement in rural areas. Under this campaign, groundwater levels are being raised by constructing water structures such as soak pits, rainwater harvesting, pond deepening, and farm ponds, while also providing employment to villagers. In Chhattisgarh's Janjgir-Champa district, the "More Village, More Water" campaign is transforming groundwater enrichment and water conservation into a mass movement through the "Nava Taria Aay Ke Jaariya" and other water structures, leading to increased irrigation facilities in rural areas and new livelihood opportunities for women.

Farmers will become self-reliant through agriculture and fisheries.

The More Village, More Water campaign, spearheaded by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, is proving to be an effective initiative for water conservation, irrigation expansion, and increasing farmers' income in rural areas. Under the Vikasit Bharat Ji Ram Ji Yojana, significant work is being done in Janjgir-Champa district to make farmers self-reliant through agriculture and fisheries by building livelihood-based water structures.

Construction of 47 livelihood ponds approved

Under the campaign, construction of a total of 47 livelihood ponds has been approved in Janjgir-Champa district, of which 35 have been completed. These ponds, filled with rainwater, are providing farmers with sufficient water for irrigation, leading to increased agricultural production along with increased acreage.

Fisheries and agriculture-based activities are being conducted in 14 ponds.

Livelihood ponds are no longer just a means of water conservation, but are also becoming a powerful source of additional income for rural families. Currently, fisheries and agriculture-based activities are being conducted in 14 ponds. Cultivation of pulses, oilseeds and other crops on the banks of the ponds is providing additional production and better income to the farmers. Construction work of 4 ponds is in progress in the district. Due to the effective implementation of the campaign, rainwater conservation, improvement in groundwater level and expansion of irrigation facilities have got a new impetus. Due to this, farmers are now continuously increasing their income by engaging in livelihood activities like agriculture and fisheries throughout the year.
