25th State Junior Badminton Ranking Competition begins in Rajnandgaon: Competition will last for 5 days, under-19 players from across the state will showcase their strength.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Dr. Raman Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao inaugurated the stadium at Digvijay Stadium; informed about the enhancement of sports infrastructure and the Rs. 100 crore Sports Excellence Mission.
Rajnandgaon. The 25th Chhattisgarh State Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2026-27 was inaugurated with great fanfare at the city's Digvijay Stadium on Sunday. Organized under the auspices of the District Badminton Association, the state-level competition was inaugurated by Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao. The competition will run from August 9th to 13th. Under-19 boys and girls players from across the state are participating.
Rajnandgaon is developing as a sports city.
Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh said that hosting a state-level competition in Rajnandgaon is a matter of pride. He noted that the city boasts talent in sports such as hockey, football, cricket, basketball, badminton, judo, karate, and wrestling.
He stated that sports infrastructure, courts, training facilities, and modern resources are being strengthened to develop Rajnandgaon as a sports city. He urged the athletes to move forward with discipline and hard work.
100 crore for Sports Excellence Mission
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao described Rajnandgaon as both the cultural capital and the sports capital. Citing the example of international weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav, he said the district has no shortage of talent. The state government is continuously working to promote sports.
He stated that 156 players have been declared outstanding players this year. A budget provision of ₹100 crore has been made under the Chief Minister's Sports Excellence Mission. He also assured the Badminton Association of budgetary support for infrastructure proposals.
Encouraged the players
MP Santosh Pandey, while encouraging the players, stressed the need to better utilize the resources of the Digvijay Stadium complex and further strengthen sports facilities. Chhattisgarh Badminton Association President Vikram Singh Sisodiya, Rajgami Sampada Trust President Purnima Sahu, public representatives, officials, coaches and a large number of players were present at the event.
