The valor of horse riders, the rhythm of the women's bagpiper band and the thrilling performance of the dog squad graced the Independence Day celebrations.
Raipur, August 15, 2026: During the main Independence Day celebrations held at the Police Parade Ground in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, mounted troops displayed their indomitable courage and energy. The rhythmic performance of the women's bag biper band won the audience's appreciation. Additionally, the Chhattisgarh Police's dog squad provided extremely useful information to the audience during the event.
Horse show of the cavalry is the center of attraction
The horse show of the cavalry was also the centre of attraction in the Independence Day celebrations. The cavalry team of the 3rd Battalion Amaleshwar gave thrilling performances like flag march, tent pegging, spear show, jumping and gallop round. Constable Dhaneshwar Kanwar did the flag march on horse Aaditri. Ajay Kumar Yadav did the standing salute on horse Aabha. Horses Rudra, Ashwasthama, Princess Sara and Shakti performed excellently in tent pegging. Horses Yuvraj, Avni, Kaveri, Juhi and Ojas showed their talent in show jumping. The people present welcomed the cavalry with thunderous applause.
Women's bagpiper band gave an impressive performance
The state's first women bagpiper band, led by constable Sonbati Thakur, gave an attractive performance at the Independence Day celebrations. This bagpiper band of 35 members of the 20th Bharat Rakshak Vahini Chhattisgarh Armed Force played tunes like India Gate, Kesariya Bana, Harsh Main, Shanti Sena and Pulkit Himalaya in the quick march. The band also played Navrangi and Tarshpe Reel, Drum Call in the slow march. The band members captivated the audience by playing melodious tunes on instruments like ceremonium, mess band, bass, tenor, side drum and bagpiper in their hands.
This women bagpiper band underwent rigorous training for 6 months at ITBP's BTC Manu in Panchkula, Haryana in 2022. This bagpiper band secured third position in the 25th All India Police Band Competition held at Dimapur, Nagaland in 2024. This competition was held at the Dimapur Training Centre of Assam Rifles. The group also received a gold medal for its excellent performance in the 26th All India Police Pipe Band Competition held in Hyderabad. In this competition, Sonbati Thakur also won the title of Best Conductor and All Rounder the Best in the entire platoon.
Exciting and useful demonstration by dog squad
In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the Chhattisgarh Police Dog Squad gave a thrilling demonstration of their skill, discipline, and sense of smell during the main Independence Day celebrations. Under the leadership of Squad Incharge Shri Raj Kapoor, the dogs performed in seven disciplines, demonstrating their adherence to their handlers' instructions, captivating the audience. Police dog Max welcomed all the guests with a bouquet of flowers. The trained dogs arranged themselves in the shape of a lotus flower, earning them widespread applause. They expertly executed commands such as sit, down, rest, sleep, roll, and up in a circular ring. Dogs Dular, Mary, and Shiva thrilled the crowd by leaping through a fire within the circular ring. At the Police Parade Ground, these trained dogs also detected explosives and narcotics buried underground with great acuity. They also demonstrated their ability to identify a specific scent from a mixture of scents and identify a person by sniffing a handkerchief.
