E-buses will run in Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg and Korba.

Instructions given to develop route plans, depot-charging infrastructure and technology-based monitoring system as per the needs of the cities.

Raipur, August 2026. Mr. Sonmani Bora, Principal Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department, today held a meeting with Mr. Bhanu Pratap Singh Bhadauria, Director of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and officials from the Urban Administration and SUDA to review preparations for the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Seva Yojana. The meeting discussed in detail various topics related to the e-bus service's operations, expansion, route planning, bus stops, depots, charging infrastructure, and command and control system. It is noteworthy that under the Government of India's Pradhan Mantri E-Bus Seva Yojana, a total of 240 electric buses have been approved for four municipal corporations in Chhattisgarh: Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, and Korba. Their operation will provide clean and modern public transport and improved connectivity for citizens in these four cities.

While reviewing the preparations for the operation of the Prime Minister's e-Bus Service, Principal Secretary of the Urban Administration and Development Department, Mr. Sonmani Bora and Director of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Mr. Bhanu Pratap Singh Bhadauria said that the routes of the e-Bus service should be determined keeping in mind the actual transportation needs of the cities and the convenience of the citizens. They asked to pay special attention to preparing routes connecting schools, colleges, hospitals, major markets, important institutions and other public utility places to the e-Bus network, so that better public transport connectivity can be developed between different parts of the city.

He directed the development of short-term and long-term route plans for e-buses and the conduct of phased route studies. He directed the phased study of proposed routes, assessing their feasibility based on passenger numbers, potential demand, distance, and connectivity. Emphasis was placed on developing routes tailored to demand in areas with high passenger traffic and finalizing them based on detailed studies.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora emphasized the need to make information related to e-bus services clear and accessible to citizens. He said that citizens should have easy access to information about how many e-buses are operating, which routes they are running on, and the stops along each route. He directed that route charts and related details be systematically prepared and shared.

Principal Secretary Mr. Bora said in the meeting that it is necessary to develop all the components of the scheme – route planning, bus operation, depot, charging infrastructure, bus stops and command and control system in an integrated manner. He directed to assess the city-wise need and available resources for the operation of e-buses in all four cities and to set priorities on that basis. He also asked to ensure regular reporting and monitoring of the progress of the scheme. Preparations for starting a special bus service for women were also discussed in the meeting. Along with this, keeping in mind the convenience of women, the preparation of necessary route and operation system was also considered.
