Daughter-in-law, along with her boyfriend, electrocuted her father-in-law, both sentenced to life imprisonment.
The father-in-law objected to his coming home to teach harmonium; the murder was tried as an accident, and the secret was revealed during the funeral.
Balod. In Balod district of Chhattisgarh, a daughter-in-law, along with her lover, electrocuted her father-in-law to death. The father-in-law did not like her lover coming to their house to teach her harmonium. He opposed this. Angered by this, the two conspired to murder her.
After the incident, an attempt was made to pass it off as a death caused by a fall from a bicycle. However, during the funeral, villagers became suspicious when they saw injuries and burn marks on the body. Now, nearly 15 months later, the court has sentenced the daughter-in-law and her lover to life imprisonment.
The incident took place in Khadenadih village, under the Doondilhora police station area. Geeta (30), the daughter-in-law of the deceased, Manohar Nirmalkar (63), used to sing bhajans in the village's service group. During this time, she met Lekhram Nishad (25), a musician from a neighboring village. Lekhram taught her harmonium. Gradually, they became close. Manohar, her father-in-law, opposed this relationship.
Suspicion arose due to the hasty conduct of the funeral
According to the police, Manohar was electrocuted while sleeping on the night of July 16, 2025. The next morning, Geeta told villagers that her father-in-law had fallen from his bicycle after drinking alcohol. Turmeric was also applied to the injuries on his body to make the death appear accidental.
But during the funeral preparations, villagers became suspicious when they saw deep wounds on the body. The lover, Lekh Ram, also attempted to hasten the cremation. They informed the police.
Technical evidence reveals the secret of the murder
The initial postmortem report revealed the cause of death to be electrocution. The police investigated based on call details, technical evidence, and items recovered from the scene. A charge sheet was filed against Geeta and Lekh Ram.
After hearing the case, the ADJ court convicted both and sentenced them to life imprisonment. Special Public Prosecutor Ghanshyam Singh Sahu represented the prosecution.
