Reach the root of the illegal drug trade and destroy the entire network – Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma
Raipur, October 2026/ Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma has directed the state to intensify action against the illegal drug trade. He said that action should not be limited to small-time drug dealers, but rather the entire network involved in the production, transportation, supply, distribution, and sale of drugs should be identified and attacked at its roots. Effective action should also be ensured against major drug smugglers, financial associates, and organized gangs operating the drug trade.
Deputy Chief Minister Sharma was addressing a state-level review meeting on drug prevention and control held today at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan, Nava Raipur Atal Nagar. In the meeting, he conducted a detailed district-wise review of cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in all districts, seizure of drugs, action against smugglers, attachment of property, confiscation of vehicles and destruction of seized drugs. He clearly stated that action against illegal drug trade should not be limited to merely registering cases, but should yield concrete results towards eliminating its entire economic and criminal network.
Campaign against drugs, patriotism and resolve to secure the future of the coming generations
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said that the campaign against drug abuse is not only a service to society and the country, but also an act of patriotism. Widespread campaigns against drug abuse are being conducted across the country. He added that foreign powers are attempting to push India's young generation into the grip of drug abuse. In such circumstances, it is our collective responsibility to protect the youth from drug abuse and secure their future. He urged officials to fight the battle against drug abuse with complete commitment, sensitivity, and strong will. Active participation of youth in this campaign should also be ensured, so that widespread public awareness against drug abuse can be developed in society.
Investigate the entire supply chain of the drug trade
Deputy Chief Minister Sharma directed that detailed mapping of cases involving the smuggling of marijuana and other narcotics be conducted. In each case, the source of the drugs, the transportation route, suppliers, local vendors, and those controlling the entire trade should be identified. He stated that action against drug carriers or small-time peddlers alone is not sufficient. It is essential to reach out and eliminate the large-scale drug traffickers and organized networks operating behind the drug trafficking. To achieve this, the entire chain from production to final sale should be investigated in each case.
Action will be taken against properties acquired through the illegal drug trade.
Deputy Chief Minister Sharma directed that properties acquired through the illegal drug trade be identified and that confiscation and seizure proceedings be expedited as per the rules. He reviewed the actions taken under the NDPS Act and SAFEMA and asked to ensure effective action under the relevant provisions.
He directed the formation of a special committee to thoroughly investigate financial transactions related to the drug trade. This committee will include chartered accountants and other financial and legal experts to effectively investigate the money, assets, and financial networks generated by the illegal trade. He stated that effectively attacking the financial system of drug traffickers is essential to stopping this illegal trade.
