Crime: Blood ties shamed! Grandfather sentenced to life imprisonment for raping deaf and mute granddaughter
Mungeli: The Fast Track Court in Mungeli has sentenced a man accused of rape to life imprisonment. Mohan Joshi, 62, a maternal grandfather, was found guilty of raping his own deaf and mute granddaughter.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge Rakesh Kumar Som imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on the accused and recommended a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the rehabilitation of the victim.
The incident occurred on February 21, 2024. The victim was home alone that day when the accused entered the house on the pretext of asking for water, locked the door, and forcibly raped her. The victim then signaled and informed her husband of the incident, after which a police report was filed.
The prosecution proved the accused guilty based on the victim's statement, medical reports, and evidence. The court said such crimes are a disgrace to society and no relationship matters before the law.
