District administration cracks down on illegal mining and transportation, seizes 5 vehicles

Raipur.  The district administration has taken strict action against illegal mineral mining, transportation, and storage in Janjgir-Champa district. Under the direction of the Collector, the Mineral Department and Flying Squad conducted surprise inspections in the Bamhnidih, Pucheli, Birra, Kansda, Hathnevara, and Pithampur areas. During the inspection, five vehicles involved in illegal transportation—one tractor from Pucheli village, one truck from Pithampur, one tractor from Kansda, and two trucks from the Bamhnidih area—were seized. All vehicles have been kept in police protected centers and related police stations for safekeeping.
District Mineral Officer Mr. Anil Kumar Sahu reported that a total of 76 cases have been registered against illegal activities in the district so far. These include 66 cases of illegal transportation, 6 cases of illegal mining, and 4 cases of illegal storage. A total of ₹24,65,550 has been collected as penalties in these cases and deposited in the mineral fund.

Strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal mining under sections 21 to 23(b) of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. The District Mineral Officer stated that the process of revoking the driving licenses of the drivers of the seized vehicles has been initiated. In case of recurrence, court complaints will be filed.

On the Collector's instructions, the mineral staff and the district-level task force are conducting continuous patrols and inspections to prevent illegal mining in the district. The administration has made it clear that illegal mining will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
