Raipur. A historic cultural journey is being organized from Chhattisgarh to connect with Somnath Dham, a symbol of Indian culture, faith, and national pride. As part of the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, the "Somnath Swabhiman Cultural Yatra," to be held from June 22nd to 26th, 2026, will see 1,000 dignitaries from the state travel to Somnath Dham in Gujarat via a special train. The journey will commence at 9 a.m. on June 22nd from Raipur Railway Station. Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai will be the chief guest, and Tourism, Culture, Religious Trusts and Endowments Minister Rajesh Agrawal will preside over the event. Raipur's public representatives, MPs, MLAs, and the Mayor, along with several other dignitaries, will also attend the ceremony.
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv symbolizes India's cultural consciousness and glorious heritage, which has maintained its faith and identity intact despite thousands of years of challenges. To mark this historic occasion, the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is organizing various programs across the country. This cultural journey to Chhattisgarh is an important part of the same national campaign aimed at connecting the new generation with India's cultural roots, spiritual heritage, and national pride.
The special feature of this Yatra is that it will include distinguished personalities selected from various districts of the state, artists honored with Padma Awards and national and international honors, litterateurs, cultural workers, social workers, and public representatives. Through this Yatra, Chhattisgarh's folk culture, traditions, and cultural diversity will also be showcased at the national level. Participants will reach Somnath carrying sacred soil and river water from their respective regions, which will become a symbol of India's cultural unity, spiritual harmony, and national integrity.
During the trip, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Somnath Temple and participate in various cultural and religious activities. Temple visits, cultural performances, art tours, and visits to sites of historical and religious significance will be key highlights of the program. This will not only provide participants with an intimate experience of India's glorious cultural heritage, but will also foster dialogue and exchange between cultural representatives from different states.
According to the Culture Department, extensive preparations are underway for the trip. Health checkups, travel arrangements, and necessary documentation are being completed for the selected participants from all districts. Departmental officials have been assigned responsibilities to ensure the smooth and safe travel via the special train.
The Somnath Swabhiman Cultural Yatra is not merely a religious pilgrimage, but a vibrant celebration of India's cultural consciousness, glorious history, and national unity. Originating in Chhattisgarh, this Yatra will provide a new identity for the state's rich folk traditions, art, literature, and spiritual heritage on the national stage. It will also inspire cultural awareness, national pride, and a renewed appreciation for Indian values.
