Emphasis on making Chhattisgarh an attractive tourist destination through better tourist facilities and robust infrastructure
Raipur, July 9, 2026. With the aim of establishing Chhattisgarh as a major tourist destination in the country and giving new impetus to the preservation and promotion of the state's rich cultural heritage, a high-level review meeting of the Tourism and Culture Department was held today at the Ministry under the chairmanship of Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal. In the meeting, a detailed review of the schemes, development projects, infrastructure construction, progress of major tourist destinations and cultural activities run by both the departments and the future action plan was done.
During the meeting, Managing Director of Chhattisgarh Tourism Board, Mr. Vivek Acharya, through a presentation, gave detailed information to Tourism Minister Mr. Rajesh Agrawal and Secretary of Tourism Department, Dr. S. Bharatidasan about various schemes run by the Tourism Department, tourism infrastructure development, progress of major projects, expansion of tourist facilities, achievements of the department and upcoming action plan. Along with this, information about cultural conservation, promotion of folk art and folk artists, cultural events, archaeological and heritage conservation and upcoming programs run by the Culture Department was given by Director of Culture Department, Dr. Sanjay Kannauje. The Culture Department was also reviewed in detail.
Following the presentation, Tourism and Culture Minister Mr. Rajesh Agrawal conducted a thorough review of the work of both departments and directed officials to complete all plans and development works within the stipulated timeframe with high quality. He said that ensuring speed, quality, transparency, and effectiveness in development works should be the top priority, so that the state's tourism and cultural development can take a new direction.
Mr. Rajesh Agrawal stated that Chhattisgarh is a state rich in natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, historical monuments, religious sites, and tribal traditions. Effective promotion of all these features is essential at the national and international levels. He directed officials to make planned efforts to promote the state's folk arts, folk artists, and cultural heritage, along with its natural, historical, cultural, and religious tourist destinations.
He placed special emphasis on providing better and modern facilities to tourists, strengthening tourism infrastructure, and the planned development of new tourist destinations. He also directed the Culture Department to preserve the state's cultural heritage, promote traditional art forms, and make museums, cultural institutions, and cultural events more effective and public-participation-based, so that the new generation can connect with its rich cultural heritage.
Tourism and Culture Minister Shri Rajesh Agrawal urged officials to ensure regular review and continuous monitoring of all projects, so that there are no unnecessary delays at any level. He said that through timely, quality, and result-oriented work, Chhattisgarh can be established as one of the country's leading states in the field of tourism and culture.
The meeting was attended by Tourism Department Secretary Dr. S. Bharatidasan, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board Managing Director Mr. Vivek Acharya, Culture Department Director Dr. Sanjay Kannauje, Under Secretary Tourism and Culture Department Mrs. Ruchi Sharma, Deputy General Manager Tourism Board Mrs. Poonam Sharma along with senior officials of Tourism and Culture Department and Chhattisgarh Tourism Board.
