Cargo ship capsizes in Bay of Bengal, 24 sailors on board; rescue operation underway
New Delhi: A Panama-flagged cargo ship sank in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday, about 240 nautical miles off the coast of Paradip, Odisha. According to officials, the ship was carrying 24 crew members. The Indian Coast Guard and Navy have launched a rescue operation following the accident.

According to officials, the cargo ship was carrying iron ore from Odisha to Singapore. It began its journey from the Odisha coast on Friday. The ship sank in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday. Upon receiving information about the sinking, other nearby ships were alerted to assist in the rescue operation.
How many people were on board?
There were a total of 24 crew members on board the cargo ship. A senior IPS officer stated that most of these members were Chinese nationals. According to the officer, it is currently unclear how many crew members have been rescued safely. The rescue operation is ongoing, and officials are closely monitoring the situation.

Upon receiving information about the ship's sinking, the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy launched a rescue operation. Nearby ships have also been alerted to assist. Currently, the priority for authorities is to locate and safely evacuate all crew members on board.
