Bilaspur. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge sheet in court against dismissed Chhattisgarh GRP constable Laxman Gain in a disproportionate assets case. The investigation revealed a discrepancy of more than 1.3 crore rupees between his legal income and expenses. It is alleged that he amassed wealth through illegal extortion from marijuana smugglers and marijuana smuggling in trains.
According to the ACB, Laxman Gain's total income was estimated at ₹86.76 lakh, while his expenses and investments exceeded ₹1.90 crore. This implies expenses exceeding ₹1.03 crore. It was also revealed that the extortion money was shared among themselves.
A case was registered under the NDPS Act in this matter. Laxman Gain is currently lodged in Bilaspur jail.
Bought luxury houses, cars and bikes
During the investigation, information about purchase of properties in the name of the accused and his relatives came to light.
The police had previously taken action in this case and seized property worth approximately 1.5 crore rupees belonging to the constables. Subsequently, the investigation into the disproportionate assets case was handed over to the ACB.
On December 1, 2024, the ACB raided Laxman Gain's Bilaspur residence and other locations.
Was dismissed from police service in 2024
Laxman Gain was dismissed from police service on November 19, 2024, for alleged collusion with marijuana smugglers and extortion. Based on the ACB chargesheet, the trial in the disproportionate assets case will now take place in court.
