Work was stopped in 3 establishments; biscuit packets were being packed with a date 9 days ahead, case filed against the shop owner

Durg: The Food Department has raided sweet shops and dairy establishments in Durg-Bhilai, Chhattisgarh and revealed major irregularities.

The investigation revealed cases of cheese being made from expired milk, sweets being prepared in unsanitary conditions, and biscuit packages being marked with future dates. During the action, approximately 2,500 kilograms of sweets and 1,000 liters of milk were destroyed. Operations at three establishments were also halted.

Paneer was being made from expired milk

At the Maa Durga Dairy on Nandani Road, cheese and yogurt were being made amidst unsanitary conditions. Expired packaged milk was being used to make the cheese. The team collected samples of the cheese, milk, and yogurt and sent them to the lab. Following this, approximately 1,000 liters of milk and 80 kilograms of yogurt were destroyed.

Laddoo and Sonpapdi also destroyed

Approximately 250 kilograms of flour laddus were found at Guptaji Laddu House in Camp 2. They were suspected of using substandard colors and sweetening agents.

Meanwhile, at Muskan Food Products in Baikunthdham, sweets were being made and packaged amidst unsanitary conditions. Laddus, sonpapdi, pedas, and barfi were being packed in unlabeled plastic jars. Action was taken to destroy the pedas, sonpapdi, lentil pak, and other sweets.

9 days ahead date on biscuits

During an inspection at Jalaram Namkeen & Dairy in Vaishali Nagar, biscuit packets were found to be dated November 1, 2026, even though the inspection had been conducted on October 23. This means the date on the packets was nine days ahead. The department has initiated the process of filing a case against the operator.

According to the Food Department, operations at all three establishments have been halted. A recommendation for license suspension will also be made. Officials said that action will continue to be taken against those violating food safety standards, as per the regulations.
