Women dominate Bastar Olympics, register twice as many players as men
Jagdalpur.
The enthusiasm of the youth in Bastar for sports is clearly visible in the registration figures this time. So far, 70,460 athletes from the district have registered to participate in the Bastar Olympics 2026. Significantly, the number of female athletes among the total registrations is almost double that of male athletes.
According to statistics, 46,949 female and 23,513 male athletes have registered for the competition. This figure also reflects the growing interest in sports in both rural and urban areas. The district administration has launched an awareness chariot to engage athletes. Under the guidance of Collector Devesh Kumar Dhruv, a registration campaign is being conducted in coordination with various departments. The competition is also being promoted through mascots, billboards, and social media. Awareness programs are being organized in the sports grounds of development block headquarters to encourage youth participation.
The deadline for registration is October 31st, meaning interested players have limited time. Considering the Diwali holidays, it has been decided to hold the block-level competitions on November 4th and 5th. Now, the administration's biggest challenge will be to provide these registered players with a better organization and an opportunity to showcase their athletic talent.
